Can an fully loaded B737-800 (189Y) fly a distance of 2015mi on 2438mts runway?

P.S - If no, does it require certain payload restrictions or a technical stopover?

According to boeing's website:

http://www.boeing.com/commercial/737family/pf/pf_800tech.html

The maximum range for a 738 with 2 class configuration is 3115 NM(5765 kms), my guess is that a fully loaded 738 can easily fly 2015 miles from a 2438mts runway, 2438 is what 8000 feet? Maybe iflytb20 can give us the correct info.

Regards,

It will depends on a lot of factors - The temp, the QNH and most importantly the enroute winds [which affects the fuel required]. I need to look at the charts to give you and better answer. But in the meantime, considering that we operate IXE-KWI [which is 2058 mi] without much restrictions. i feel it is possible.

PS: I will get back to you in a day or two - charts are on bard only and i'm flying tomorrow night only.

First, the Aircraft performance / limitation part :

For most of the IX 738s, the MTOW is 77100 Kgs. I am assuming by 2015 mi you meant Statute miles and not Nautical miles. That makes it appx 1750 NM. These days we have a head wind while flying Westbound. The average ground speed these days is about 430 Kts. That makes the flying time appx 04:05 hrs. With an average hourly fuel burn of 2800 Kgs, that makes the total burn-off appx 11400 Kgs. Keeping 3000 kgs as reserve and 300 kgs as taxi fuel, that gives us our Minimum required fuel as 14700 Kgs. Subtracting that from our MTOW gives us a MZFW as 62400 kgs. The MZFW for our aircraft is 62700 kgs. Therefore we have a restriction of 300 kgs because of the minimum fuel we have to carry.

Just to sum it up:

1750*430 = 04:05 hrs
04:05 * 2800 = 11400 Kgs
11400 + 300 + 3000 = 14700 Kgs
77100 - 14700 = 62400 kgs
62700 - 62400 = 300 kgs <== payload restriction due to fuel requirement

Now for the airport part:

For IXE R06/24, we wave no payload restrictions till an OAT of +32 deg. Above that we are limited by the runway length. For eg at +36 deg, max TOW allowed is 76100 Kgs [A restriction of 1000 kg] while at +40 deg Max TOW allowed is 74400 Kgs [A restriction of 2700 Kgs]

So upto +32 degrees we can carry almost a full load of pax but anything above, there are restriction on the load. In the winters, there would be no restriction as not only are the temperatures lower, but also the winds are tailwinds.

Hope this answered your question. Wink
