As if the existing surcharges were'nt enough, the airlines in India have started imposing a web surcharge on all e- tickets. This is to offset the rising cost of hosting their websites.

Why do they host in the US, when they can do it for a fraction of the cost in India, is what I still don't understand. Anyways, I guess there will be a bloodbath again this summer, and what may come out of this is anybody's guess.

Next in line:- inflation surcharge?

E-ticket bookings are more profitable to the airlines as it saves them the cost of hiring ticketing executives, paper, etc, etc...

This is why some airlines (IC is one example) offer a special web-fare which is atleast INR 200 cheaper than if you were to book the ticket at the counter

I wonder why this surcharge then!

Okay, so is there anyway to book a ticket without paying a surcharge? Ticket prices should be advertised/listed including all taxes, surcharges, and fees. Imagine if my Magic Masala Lays packet said Rs 20, and then suddenly the store owner asked for Rs 75! This bait and switch needs to end. Things are getting more expensive in the industry, but the airlines should be transparent about their rates. Most of the flying public has had ample time to realize fares are on their way up, and there shouldn't be a lot of sticker shock for anyone.

As said by wingspan, a ticket's cost only with all surcharges/taxes and blah blah should be shown at all the booking sites.
