-INDIA INC's Chosen F,J Seats By AVIO INTERIORS, ITALY.

As a few respected members here have said, Sunil Gavaskar and Anand Mahindra may not exactly know what the right type of seat is.

Final choice for Air India was decided by a visibly excited Ratan Tata.
Part of the exercise in seat selection involved blindfolding the members of the India Inc+celebrity panel and asking them to touch and feel it!!!!
Shortlisting was done after this.

Quote:
-New THALES IFE i-5000 with 600Hours of Entertainment.

Emirates, which Air India is so fond of talking about these days already talks of about 1,500 hours of fresh programming!!! -- on the A340-500

The India Inc+celebrity panel had a major discussion on this. Shabana Azmi and Maureen Wadia felt it was too western and that there should be ayurvedic products. So Shanaz Husain may be roped in for a rescue act!!!!

Hope it reaches the passenger and not found on the pavements of Kalina

Quote:
-Bone China crockery

What happened to the Royal Doulton? Again in Kalina?

Quote:
-New Inflight Magazine 'Corporate' For F.J Class.

Rethink on this. The plan now may be to go on for one Namaskaar that incorporates about 32 pages of the new IFE programming.

Quote:
-New World Class Duty Free Range.

Something to look forward to.

Quote:
-Soothing Mood Lighting..

Most airlines going in for this!!!

Quote:
-'Your Bazaar in the sky' -a new Separate Magazine of Duty Free Range.
-New Designer Cabin Crew Uniforms (after Merger with IA).

Rethink on the mag again.
Crew not to enthusiastic about wearing skirts and trousers.

-TECHNOLOGICAL FRONT.

-Total Computerisation.
-e-Ticketing in Association with TCS.
-Shortly Launching - All New and World Class Website.
-Totally Computerised Oracle Based Tendering and Capital Budgeting System by SATYAM.

Looks like Air India is rediscovering what the airline business is about. Even tiny Kingfisher is miles ahead.

Quote:
-MORE EMPHASIS ON PROFIT.

Yeah!!! There's more to the world than just the Gulf. And without the Gulf you will sink like a stone.
Get out of the Gulf and reexamine your old route maps. Remember you were once a pioneering airline!!!!

Quote:
-More Fuel Hedging Limits.

GoI decided that long ago. An airline like Qatar is now thinking of flying on natural gas and is working on this with a few engine manufacturers.

Quote:
Less Cabin Crew / Aircraft as per DGCA and INTL Standards.

Accepted. But Air India cabin crew say aircraft have been flying understaffed for a few years.

Quote:
-Inhouse Pilot Training on New Simulators to Save Time and Money.
-Outsourcing of Ground Handling Services at Non-Metro AIRPORTs..

Every major airline uses this as assets and is a part of corporate planning.

Quote:
-NEW CORPORATE VISION.

-Totally Modernised Centaur LOGO...

Make sure you live up to what it symbolises. And not a symbol of an airline flying aimlessly. Anyway the new aircraft have this "castrated" Centaur on the tail.
Quote:
-
-More Events' Sponsorships ( Mumbai Festival, Pravasi Bhartiya Divas, IIT ALUMNI Meet, Mumbai Marathon and Many More ARTS And Cultural Festivals, etc. )

Nice idea. But too Desi. Emirates, Lufthansa are into global events.
What it really is: GoI's cleverly couched strategy to find a way of dishing out free tickets calling such traffic as "commercially important".

Quote:
-
-Entry into a Big GLOBAL AIRLINE ALLIANCE (probably STAR)

But standards have to improve, though all the three alliances are showing interest.
Quote:
-
-New HUB CONTROL SYSTEM with IA to Control, Manage and Avoid DELAYS.

Should be possible with the new fleet.
Quote:
-
-New Delay Monitoring Committee reporting Directly to CMD THULASIDAS.

And act fast. No point in being inactive and have the likes of NDTV, TimesNow and CNN-IBN take you to pieces. This is also the age of the citizen journalist. Bad publicity is out in seconds from inside an aircraft.

Quote:
-Concessions for Students Going ABROAD Studies.

Jet Airways is going to offer tough competition on this.

Quote:

NEW CARGO ARM.
-Dedicated Cargo Aircraft (2 A310s).

-Air India-SATS Cargo Handling Facility at BLR.

Hope this takes off. AIX markets now need a strong cargo arm as the missing A310s are hurting the cargo market badly.
Kerala is a fine example.

AIX LCC Blues.

-Around 22 LCD Screens on Board for Limited IFE.
-Complimentary Snack Box.( A new Competitive Strategy for an LCC. )

This is what an LCC is all about.
Rethink on ordering aircraft (of the type AIX now has). Latest AI/IA joint board meeting feels there will be a surplus of aircraft.
Also a new line of thinking that AIX must now fly more international. Thulasi is even thinking of converting a few of AI's new widebodies into AIX widebodies. And follow the Air Asia X and Oasis Hongkong models.

Good!!!
787 is gonna be brand new!!!! Unless Air India creates problems!!!!

Evil or Very Mad WHAT IS MISSING: Not acknowledging the fact that Indian (Airlines) is going to play a major role in all this. Is going to be the backbone of Air India.

***
Don't intend to be impolite.
But most of this info is frankly speaking, quite laughable.

All this is standard in the so-called "5-star" airlines and should have been implemented decades ago.

Advertising new sidewall decor and the like isn't exactly going to make passengers queue up to fly you.
Air India seriously needs to work on public perception of its shoddy image and try and become the Air India it was once known to be.

Also the contradiction of merger comes out in what has been posted ..The struggle to have IA retain its independent identity is obvious!!!!

Typical GoI advertising --- advertise the fact that all the seats have 10 nuts and bolts and then say its unique!!!

Whats that supposed to mean? Rolling Eyes AI 787s will not be flying??? Cos if they fly then definately there has to be maintenance

The points put up by the dude are more towards AI after the merger.

Wow, you guys are really tearing this list apart. Not sure why. What is the source of this list? Something released to the press or something?

I don't see a problem in listing these things even if others have already done it and done it for years. It is at least showing AI is finally catching up and addressing its problems. As far as insignificant items being on the list it is no different than a car manufacturer listing a lighter or cup holder on its feature list. It's just filler material.

This is again in serious dispute. Tarun Tahilaini and Ritu Beri are particularly angry that they were asked to design the uniforms and then asked to go slow ... almost wait for a year. What has incensed them even more is tnat they have to take orders and suggestions from Pierre Cardin.
Last heard was that they are planning to file a case against AI for "breach of contract" as their designs "have not been cleared" by Cardin.

AI has also been asked to consult IA first about the uniforms!!

Well, I don't know how much Air India is really changing.

I just flew EWR to BOM on AI144 (I had to cancel my BA flight on Thursday because of an emergency, and the only choice for a relativley inexpensive J Class seat at the last minute was AI at $ 3600; note that Austrian, Swiss, BA, DL, EK were all full in J going into BOM that night). We were delayed in EWR for 5 hours because of the miserable weather in the NY area, departing at 3:45 AM instead of the scheduled 10:10 PM. The crew on board were excellent, the food as usual good, the liquor plentiful.

However, AI just can't get the cabin hardware figured out. We had a full flight on the 777, and First Class was taken up by some minister and his entourage. I don't know which one, because they were whisked on and off the plane by the usual coterie of GOI chamchas, and I was too tired to really care. In any case, I digress.

First of all, while the UA J Class seats are plenty comfortable, mine wouldn't recline. So, we spent some time fiddling around with the controls and then pushing the seat back really hard to get it to move. OK, fine. We finally got it sort of working. Next, the IFE monitors. Much like the overhead monitors on the 744, the PTVs needed much playing around with before they actually worked. And when they finally did, all the 8 channels or so were playing the same damned thing, except some channels were clearer than others. Why even bother having a PTV?

Now, if AI can't figure out how to upkeep the relatively primitive IFE on the UA 777s, how in God's name are they going to maintain a sophisticated IFE with AVOD and 200 channels, etc etc etc. Is the airline hiring a group of new aircraft audio-video experts? Are they sending their existing engineers to necessary training classes? Who knows?

Air India is going to be a little more professional now.
Inviting a team (through a global tender) to manage complete maintenance of all inflight fittings --- galley, cabin and toilets. Must be in complete working order.

Reposting from Air India News-- Part 2

Air India will also be handing out maintenance of cabins of the 747-400, 777 series to vendors/maintenance agencies.
They will rectify all reported defects:
in overhead bins
seats in economy class
check electrical /Manual operation of all seats in F and J and rectify all faults.
Check galley equipment fully which will now include microwave ovens.

Do a full operational check of IFE (audio and video) and reading lights in F and J
Check and service Lap Top power Points in Fand J
Check and service all defects in economy class seats including IFE/audio/video and reading lights
Check cabin illumination lights and cabin boarding music systems

Toilets
Check for leakage, bowl defects, vaccum blowers, toilet smoke detection system, water heater, toilet lights (mirror light and call Light), toilet door.

Cabin crew will also have to do frequent checks and note down every complaint in notebooks. AI management is working out a small allowance for cabin crew for this.

dude lets get real here.... its a sarkari airline... and until and unless people dont start taking it seriously no change is going to happen... i agreee about being positive... but for how long? for how long are we going to actually wait for it to become 'civilized' ? they talk... they give lists.. but how many things are actually put into the works? yes they are getting new aircrafts, etc. etc. but still its not going to happen until the people start caring about the airline and not themselves! its tooo much to ask for from the indian gov.! but if they do id say they are changing.... so we can wait.... but im not gonna keep my expectations up and be disappointed in the end...
