IndiGo flight returns to Kolkata after hijack scare
Kolkata, March 11 (IANS) A flight of private carrier Indigo was Sunday night forced to return to Kolkata soon after leaving for New Delhi following a hijack scare though all passengers were safe, authorities said.
The Indigo flight 274 that had left the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Airport here at 7.45 p.m. returned here at 9.15 p.m. and was kept in the isolation bay, said airport authorities.
'One Mr. Naresh Ahuja had called up the airport warning that the flight might be hijacked after he received an SMS from his daughter who had overheard some conversation,' said Mahesh Kaul, an airport official.
'The flight has been kept in the isolation bay and has been thoroughly searched, but no explosives have been found. All 130 passengers on board are safe,' Kaul told IANS.
He added that the entire episode was due to the confusion over the text message and there indeed was no hijack threat to the flight.
Dipayan Majumdar, one of the passengers, said: 'We had to come back midway after the SMS led to confusion. We have disembarked and fresh boarding passes will be allotted and hopefully the flight will leave soon.'

Update:
http://www.hindu.com/thehindu/holnus/004200703122064.htm
Girl in jail custody for SMS
Kolkata, March. 12 (PTI): M Ahuja, arrested after thorough interrogation by different agencies for creating the hijack scare in a Kolkata-Delhi flight last night through her SMS, was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days by a North 24 Parganas district Court today.
The SMS by Ahuja (25) caused a hijack scare on the Indigo flight (6E-274) that compelled the Airports Authority of India to bring back the plane from Varanasi sky to Kolkata's N S C Bose international airport last night.
She was arrested earlier in the day and interrogated by the police to find out as to what prompted her to send the SMS and later put under arrest.
The girl had sent the message about a hijack scare on board the flight to her father. It compelled the the Air Traffic Control (ATC) to alert the pilot.
On receiving the SMS her father contacted the Airports Authority of India that led to the abandoning of the flight and its return to Kolkata with 138 passengers and three crew members.
The plane had returned under full emergency conditions and commandos and security personnel carried out thorough searches after offloading the aircraft. But nothing objectionable was found.
The plane was okayed by the AAI and all the passengers, except Ahuja, were accommodated for its fresh flight at about midnight. |

So the girl sent an SMS to her father, and the father reported it to the AAI?
Was the dad (Ahuja) on the flight?

Well if that was the case then I really wouldn’t rush to blame either of them. It’s better to be on the safe side I guess, but the articles really don’t say much
If it really was an accident, I don’t think any criminal charges should be brought against her. How do you accurately figure that out- well that’s another question. _________________ eP007 |
