My vote goes to Tata Sky. Its quality of picture & sound is unmatched. There are some more advantages too like lack of the local cable guy (which means that there will be no blackouts when the cable operators demand something or when there are crucial events).
The only disadvantage being that u cannot choose the channels which u would like to watch, you have to take all the channels on offer. _________________ MRVC Mania. My blog dedicated to the new violet-white suburban rakes of Mumbai. |

What about Max number of channels offered by each.
Also is Clarity of Cable thru Digital STB less than DTH or same.

MEL,
You will have to buy 3 set top boxes for Tata Sky as well as Cable with set top box. The charge for the additional set top box is less then the 1st one. But you cannot be content with just one STB as u will have to watch same channel on all the 3 TVs _________________ MRVC Mania. My blog dedicated to the new violet-white suburban rakes of Mumbai. |

True. With CAS in place i would need 3 STBs.Hence the poll.
Might just Split the usage with DTH & Cable.
Anyone aware of the Number of channels on offer.

Tata Sky is Rs 300 per month & in CAS one pays for only those channels which one prefers to watch.
Tata Sky has over 100 channels on offer including all the popular ones.Dunno about CAS, but there are likely to be more channels in CAS.
Another positive about Tata Sky is that the user interface is very easy to use. The interface of CAS is somewhat complicated (I had to refer the user guide for instructions about using the menu, which was not necessary for Tata sky). _________________ MRVC Mania. You are wrong. You can watch different channels on tata sky at the same time in dif tvs. we have 4 tvs wit tata sky, one dish and four stbs.
As for the charges we pay Rs 100+100x4=Rs500 per month. For three months now we have free access to it. |

787, I think that there has been some misunderstanding. I meant to say that with one STB, one can watch inly one channel at a time on all the TVs, but with a separate STB for each TV, one can watch any channel.

I might go in for TATA SKY & Cable. What about the Dish TV option.not many takers.
Cable gives 140-145 channels currently.

For such topics it is useful to see the site www.mouthshut.com
The comments on various airlines and airports may also be of interest to people on this group.
I agree with the others who have praised Tata Sky. One aspect which may affect some viewers is that it has exactly the same bouquet all over the country. If you are watching only English and Hindi it is fine, but the coverage of other languages is not so good. All the major regional languages have perhaps three to six channels, but if you are very keen on watching say Bengali or Tamil channels then Tata Sky may not be the best choice. Dish TV has a more complicated pricing system but would probably be better for such cases. However Tata Sky's customer service seems to be much better.
Another little known option is DD Direct, which most of the dealers in Tata Sky and Dish TV should be able to provide. It has NO monthly subscription but has a very limited bouquet of perhaps 32 channels-including ALL channels of DD and some AIR channels, but not much else. This could be useful for those who don't want to spend and are satisfied with a limited bouquet.
Finally all the dish systems are likely to be affected in bad weather-but not for more than a few minutes. (We in Jaipur are fortunate that there are hardly any storms |
