Qantas is likely to operate direct flights between Chennai and Perth to strengthen the trade links, according to the visiting Premier of Western Australia Alan J. Carpenter has said, according to a NDTV report.
He said the Australian Govt had persuaded Qantas -- in a move to strengthen the trade links, to fly direct between Chennai and Perth.
He added that the airline might extend this service to either Hyderabad, Bangalore or Cochin.
The airline might use the 767 or A330 for this.

Is there sufficient traffic between MAA and PER? It's most likely going to be VFR and that too O&D. Transit from international to domestic is not that simple. Domestic and International terminals are not connected. If I was flying to SYD/MEL from MAA, I would rather transit at KUL or SIN.

Visiting Friends and Relatives between MAA and PER ur kidding me mate Very Happy

Out of all Major cities in AU Perth is the city with max no of white population and unfortunately they are quite rascist too unlike ppl living in MEL & SYD where ppl are used to the cultural mix

I really hate it when the govt intervenes in such scenarios, and seems like the Oz govt is no better than our Indian govt in such matters Sad

What would have made sense would have been for the minister to round up a few industrialists and commit to a bunch of J seats through the year. Now that would have made QF sit up and take real notice.

VFR is more likely than business trips. I have been to Perth 4 times and I did not find the people racist. In fact they were friendlier than the ones in SYD and BNE.

Thats understandable but why PER-MAA??? BNE or MEL would have made a lot more sense.

BOM-MAA-SIN-Jakarta-Perth which was done by the great Airbus A310-300s.
