Shivendra, I'll try to dig up some material I had, and see if I can try to lay my hands on
some ancient photocopied pages. I may have some techincal infomration on this as well.
The IAF engineering team by the way, has done quite a bit on the avionics part -
for instance, for the Mig-27s, with the BEL-supplied components. Ditto for the now
retired Mig-23s - the bomber version, at least. The source for the latter piece of
information: some Air force officers who have worked on the Mig-27s and the Mig-23
bomber versions. As regards the C-119 query, can you give me a few days?
I hope to get something by then.
Thanks for your interest,
Sumantra. |

No Shivendra, I do not think that this information is correct. I distinctly remember seeing
this in a Jane's All the Worlds Aircraft edition - possibly a 1968-69 one, where there is an
entry for a US company (Aviation Traders, or something like that - my memory fails me),
which had done the conversions of `the Flying Boxcar'- and their largest client at that
time was the IAF. In India, most of such engineering changes are generally effected by
the HAL, such as the Ajeet version of the Folland Gnat - the Ajeet was a much more
potent weapon.
Cheers, Sumantra. |
Hi Shivendra - my memory obviously has failed me a bit.
I have scanned in a photocopied page from the 1970-71 edition of
the Jane's All the World's Aircraft, p. 456. This is a
Steward-Davis conversion, and the image below gives all the
details.
Cheers, Sumantra.
