Great shot mate... the lush green grass somehow adds some unique edge to an aviation photo. |

That was quick.. Yep, Leh it is. With a temperature of minus 1, it was literally freezing out there. The aircraft visible is a 9W 737-700 that landed right before us on runway 07 that is around 10,000 feet above sea level.
Here's another one that was clicked on the way:

Hi:
Yea, KLM operate both the 744 and the MD 11 to DEL. For the heavier months, they use the 744 and for the rest of the year they use the MD11. Its rather balanced actually, they change over to the 744 in about middle October from the MD.
A few years ago they decided to change it to a 777, but that didnt last too long and soon enough they switched back to the MD11. And my God was that 744 full! Good business KLM does with the Punjabi community, i felt as if i was in a small "pind" in punjab all the way back!

This C119 actually has a jet pack installed on top of the fuselage. This jet pack was designed and developed by IAF engineers.

Wasn't the "jet pack" called JATO (Jet Assisted Take Off) ?
This C119 "Packet" was actually flown by a close friend of my Dad, who later went on to become the ADC to President Rajendra Prasad; and then on to Air India as a 707 & 747 Capt.
Some great scenes of the "Packet" can be seen in the Motion Picture "Flight of The Phoenix". |

No Shivendra, I do not think that this information is correct. I distinctly remember seeing
this in a Jane's All the Worlds Aircraft edition - possibly a 1968-69 one, where there is an
entry for a US company (Aviation Traders, or something like that - my memory fails me),
which had done the conversions of `the Flying Boxcar'- and their largest client at that
time was the IAF. In India, most of such engineering changes are generally effected by
the HAL, such as the Ajeet version of the Folland Gnat - the Ajeet was a much more
potent weapon.
Cheers, Sumantra. |

Ok. That's a news to me. I read about this Jetpack in the monthly Air Force mag, although i fail to remember which one.
Someone can shed more light on this?
Cheers
