Hello,

We all must be knowing that windows Vista was launched yesterday. After the launch, the site of Microsoft has undergone a heavy metamorphosis. Most of the content on the main page is only about the Vista Smile . XP finds mention only as a link to the homepage of XP. They seem to have forgotten that most of the users do not have PCs that meet the high hardware requirements Wink

Anyways, has anyone seen how Vista is? Or is anyone planning to upgrade to Vista?

I'll upgrade over time, no need for me to rush out and get Vista.

Plus I'll be going for the 64 OS, when I get a new computer or laptop.

My AMD 2400+ only supports 32 bit OS ATM

My office has got one copy of Vista so I saw it. Looks nice and windows has integrated all the Audio/Video functionality quite well. The layout is quite different from the XP...

The only drawback I heard from my IT guys is that it really slows down the system unless one has a powerful processor and lots of RAM no fun installing it....

Yes. The hardware requirements of the Vista are huge. In an article about it, I had read that even with 512 MB RAM, it can take ages to perform simple tasks.

Secondly, whats not there in XP? We have almost everything one can think of in it. It can run on machines with low RAM too. So the best option for those wanting to upgrade to Vista should be, wait for some time, say a year or so till the reliability of Vista is proved, flaws in it, if any are revealed & then go for it!!

IMHO, It doesnt make sense for a personal pc to be upgraded to Vista; however, if you are getting a new PC, Vista makes much more sense.

I think thats where MS is going to get most of their sales.

Yes IT guys tell me none of the Anti Virus softwares available in the market is Vista compatible same goes for other softwares like acrobat reader. So best is to wait for a few months for the other software releases and also Windows will clean out the bugs by that time...

Yes, wait & watch is the best option. It is indeed a serious matter if softwares are not Vista compatible.

For some, another factor against purchasing the Vista could be the price, the most basic version costs Rs. 4500 & the fully loaded version comes somewhere in the vicinity of Rs. 10,000 if I remember right.

I have used Vista Ultimate edition at work in late 2006, for testing a video card. And it was really bad, we had to reinstall every time we rebooted. Hope by now those things have been fixed. The graphics look very impressive 3D on vista.

Hello,

Today, I read a review of the vista in HT, Mumbai edition. Posting excerpts:

Vista Home basic: Functional yet feature-filled, no nonsense computing. No AERO interface. And we see no reason to buy it over the XP.

Overall: Vista will work well without AERO & it is not worth the trouble over XP without the AERO.

Should you buy the Vista? Er, no. XP home & professional work very well & MS will soon ship SP3 for XP. Getting any version under Home premium is like moving out of your 500 sq ft home & moving into another 500 sq ft one right above you.

So it is clear that one should not settle for anything less than home premium of Vista. And how much does a box of home premium cost? Rs 14500. And for AERO to work you will need a dedicated graphics card.

So with 5-figure price for the cream of Vista, this might be the time to buy a new PC instead.

No. But according to reports, it still has some driver & application compatibility issues.
