DISCLAIMER: As this is my first trip report, kindly be patient with me. Also since i am also from the same industry, and the reputation of my company is....ahem not so good, i have to strive extra hard to avoid a foot-in-mouth situation
18 Nov 07
BLR - HYD - BOM
VT-WAC
G8-375
STD: 1535 hrs
ATD: 1610 hrs
STA: 1915 hrs
ATA: 1930 hrs
Load: BLR-HYD 75-80%
HYD-BOM 100%
The only reason i travelled on Go Air was due to the fact that all the other flights to BOM were full, and my travel agent made a BIG blunder while booking my ticket. Instead of 0930 am as i had requested he booked the flight for 0930 pm which would put me in a very tight situation as i had a flt to operate from BOM on 19th early morn. So much for background information, lets go to the trip part.
I had planned to reach the arpt at 1400 hrs itself so that after check-in i cud spend some time in the book shop......that was one plan which remained a plan only
I had thought that my flt was on a holiday / non-peak hour so shuld not have much of a trouble. Boy was i wrong or what. From the IAM gate to the terminal took me 25 min ( which, as per some of my BLR pals, was real QUICK). Then i hit air traffic congestion for baggage X-ray. The queue
was longer than a train. To cut a long story short, it took me 20 min to finally enter the terminal (again pretty fast by BLR stds )
Check-in was fast, probably because i was the last guy to check-in. After all this i though a quick trip to the book shop was feasible, but once i saw the line for security check, i abandoned the plans and joined the bandwagon so to speak. When i finally made it through security, 15 min had elapsed (i know, i know.....it was FAST)
As there were more than 1 departure, the departure lounge was crowded. There have been no major changes in the lounge since the last time i was here 4 months ago, except that the seats were more dirty, and all the shop prices had been affected by inflation. I just cant wait for BIAL to open.
Anyways, after all this Murphy's law had to come into the picture. And YES, the incoming acft got stuck in traffic. I later met the deck crew and they told me that the acft before them had declared an Emergency and hence they got delayed. Boarding commenced at 1545 hrs and soon i was on my way in the last coach. The acft was parked at Bay 2, so the bus trip was a relatively short one. Even though i was seated in 27A, i was told to board from the forward door as aft galley was being serviced / cleaned.
I met the commander on the stairs itself (she was just returning after completing the walk around). I had a brief chat with her and she instructed her crew to look after me After all this i started the looong walk to my seat which was, as per the lady with a smile, left hand side window seat towards the rear of the acft When i finally reached my seat i was a bit shocked. Even though i'm used to non-clean seats thanks to constant travel in a well-talked about airline , this one really took my breath away. ALL 3 seat pockets were, by the looks of it , used for other purposes than storing magazines / personal effects. To me it seemed as if they were being used as foot-rests or something, because the were demolished. And they were full of waste from the previous sector(s).
But the silver lining was that i had the middle and aisle seat free. Even though someone was alloted that seat, they ran away after seeing the condition of the seats. Probably one of those pampered by 9W,IT gang . So as a result, i was able to settle down easily without finding someone else's elbow in my lap. And there was another good thing about my seat..... the backrest was semi-broken. As a result the moment the take-off roll started, i was almost in the lap of the lady seated behind me
The doors were closed 5 min after i was seated and the acft was puched back for a Rw 09 departure. Startup and Taxi was normal and soon we were blasting off the runway. We climbed to our cruise alt of FL290 (29000') and the expected time to HYD was 1 hour. I soon dozed off (i had a flt in the night....remember), and woke up about 10 min before landing.
The landing was a smooth one and soon we were parked at our stand. The acft was then boarded by the cleaning staff who soon got to work ( or it seemed so) but somehow the seat pockets remained dirty. A security man soon approached all the pax and asked them to identify their baggages. There was a big gujju family traveling and soon there were having a mini picnic in the acft. I guess they were frequent fliers coz they had enough food to feed a small country
Soon it was boarding time and unfortunately this time there were no IT,9w gang because the seats next to me were occupied . The doors were soon closed and with a ground time of just 35min, the turn around was quick. Soon we were taxing to the runway and were taxing at a fair clip as the ATC had requested the crew to expedite as there was another acft on approach. Unfortunately we had no narrow escape as the acfts were well separated. Soon we were airborne and were treated to a BEAUTIFUL sunset. This time around the cruising altitude was FL340 and an expected flying time of 1:30 hrs traffic permitting (exact words by the crew). I don't know much of this as i was soon busy sawing logs and woke up only about 5 min before landing. The landing was another smooth affair and we vacated the runway via taxiway C.
There was a mini-drama after this as the Apron control changed the parking stand at the last minute and the ground staff had a bit of exercise as they ran to the new stand to greet the acft. I hanged around till the end because i wanted to meet the deck crew and thank them for the flight.
The trip to the terminal was fast, even though we were packed like sardines in the bus. Since another Go Air flt had landed at the same time, the baggage belt was packed. My bags took about 30 min before they appeared, and some people had to wait even longer. Overall i had a decent time onboard, and the crew were very attentive and helpful.
On a scale of 10, i would rate G8 as follows:
on time performance : 8
plane cleanliness : 3
cabin crew : 10
luggage retrieval : 7
I am sorry for this long TR, but then again its my first attempt.
And secondly, sorry for the fact that i was unable to take any pics as i was more busy trying to sleep. Hope to improve on the next time.
