India agree deal on Grand Prix
The Indian Olympic Association says it has reached an agreement with Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone to stage a Grand Prix in New Delhi from 2009. IOA president Suresh Kalmadi said the agreement was preliminary and conditional on having a venue approved.
The city does not currently have a racing track.

There was a news on similar topic few days back. It said that they would construct a temperory race track in Luyten's Delhi consisting of Rajpath and some major arterial roads. Same way as in San Marino where it serves as race track during F1 and rest of the year as a normal roads. Same concept here too.
Cheers

That really would be a great idea, specially in DEL, i mean you could have the reported path around Raj path, C.P., and the likes, it would be a spectacular event, though through alternate route arrangements will have to be made.
I Can wait for it to happen, actually with VJM behind it.. it probably will.

India has plenty of lunatics, who love to point at the smallest of things... whether it be naming a girl Sexy in Cheeni Kum or it be Orkut... They need a reason to protest... What do you think will these nerds let it happen without intervening.... NO!!!.... They will say: It's a heritage area... Sound pollution... Will hamper the beauty...... Their excuses are countless... Let's hope if not Luyten's then some other place in DELHI only!!!....... For test runs... we can surely provide our runway at Safdarjung....... Moreover for the protesting lunatics... Luyten's Delhi has witnessed high speed movement... A lot of Delhiites have been through this... Roads cordoned off for minutes... Then a cavalcade with a BMW zooms at a fast speed... The PM and his security... Our very own single participant F1 but with no pit stops... _________________ Nalini... The Princess of the Sky... yeaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh
A street circuit would be wonderful- but a new track isn’t a bad idea
Delhi seems a great place; good timing as well- with the Commonwealth games a few years off Delhi will have a couple thousand more hotel rooms which will be desperately needed. _________________ eP007 |

But where are they going to construct it... They need to shortlist land for such purpose... But in my mind, only rural areas in the outskirts of Delhi will be having good land space... Any suggestion from those who are familiar with Delhi...
My Suggestions-
1. Next to DND Flyway...
2. Scrap Safdarjung Airport and make way for F1, instead of developing into a park.
3. Somewhere in Dwarka or Rohini... _________________ Nalini... The Princess of the Sky... You are a star which will continue to illuminate your own A.net-India forever... |

Correction, that would be Monte Carlo, Monaco. However, I'd love to see a F1 street race in New Delhi, that would be fantastic and a great way to also showcase the city's major landmarks!
