Boeing seeking buyers for 11 787s
News
26-Feb-2014 11:06 AM
Boeing spokesman Doug Alder confirmed the company is seeking buyers for 11 early production 787s, with Boeing having "several available opportunities" for sales (Bloomberg, 26-Feb-2014). The aircraft have been grounded at the company's Everett facility since 2009 and Boeing is reportedly preparing to upgrade the aircraft to meet FAA certification standards. Carriers that opted out of 787 acquisitions included Transaero Airlines and Lion Air, the latter opting to swap the aircraft for 737 narrowbodies. Two 787s due to go to RwandAir have also been left as whitetails, as the carrier failed to confirm an LoI. Boeing has reportedly approached Malaysia Airlines, Garuda Indonesia and carriers in Latin America and the Middle East with proposals for the aircraft.

The B787 somehow has taken a severe beating with the reports of malfunctions of a serious nature over time.....they will need to work hard to get back the customers confidence in the type again.

These are the heavier, early builds. So they have a range penalty of around 1000 nm.

I guess they will be snapped up by the likes of Transaero, Arik Air or Euro Atlantic.

I don't think Boeing is having trouble selling new builds.

These 11 will likely go to BBJ/VIP customers.
