http://www.expressen.se/nyheter/the-truth-about-the-luxury-of-qatar-airways/
Quote: | Qatar Airways' CEO, Akbar Al Baker, also owns the airport in Doha and the country's only private license for alcohol and pork. One of Akbar Al Baker's main aims is to see both the airport and Doha's importance as a tourist destination and transport hub grow. Qatar Airways is therefore a marketing tool that helps put the whole country on the map.
Many international organisations have strongly criticised working conditions in Qatari companies, among them Amnesty International ñ who visited Qatar several times during 2013 |

Par for the course in the Middle East.
At least Doha seems to be less discriminating in that they seem to be treating everyone like shit irrespective of skin color. This is unlike in the UAE where the Whites are treated like royalty and the coloured people like slaves. _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).

It's heartbreaking to read that every DOH-KTB flight brings back coffins of dead Nepalese workers! They literally work to death! No wonder QR flies to KTB multiple time a day. _________________ Tally Sheet:

Probably sensationalized, but I remember reading a headline a few weeks ago claiming that there was a strong possibility that up to 4,000 migrant labourers could die between now and the Football World Cup. Not surprising, seeing that they will be made to work until they burnout, both in heat and cold, with minimal salary and benefits.
I think it was Amnesty International who reported it, and Qatar found an easy solution to the problem: they purchased that wing for themselves on a ten year term until 2023.
Of course, that won't stop folks from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Lanka to yet head out there to make a living in such inhumane conditions. A classic sign of a labour intensive economy is when the number of males far outsrip the fairer sex, and Qatar is a classic example of this phenomena:

I read the article. It was terrible. I pass through these 'prison cells' every day not knowing this. _________________ |

Quite a disgrace, especially AAB's tyranny and megalomania. He sounds like he'd give Idi Amin a run for his money. Disgusting. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Compared to this DXB is a paradise and while conditions are not exactly great at EK, but it should be much better than QR. I wonder how it is at Saudia and Kuwait. |

Quite correct, Dubai and the rest of the UAE seem to be a more 'mature' labour/services market in the scheme of things.
Can't think of Saudi Arabia or Kuwait to be too fun lol. _________________ Yeah. |

The world was so much better off in the pre-globalisation days
Airlines and aircraft had individual personalities and technology (not accountants) dictated progress and innovation.
Agreed most people were not well off, but life was relatively peaceful. You could board an airplane without having to take off your shoes and getting x-rayed naked. And people actually dressed up to travel, instead of the half-pant/backpack/chappals/cellphone crowd of today.
And these Middle Eastern carriers were still discovering something called an airplane.. |
