A show of hands everyone, if you think the Boeing 787 has done more good than harm to the world of aviation so far.
Nobody? That gentleman in the last row there? No?

Air India's flights to Melbourne, Frankfurt, Birmingham and what not burn a little less fuel and cost the taxpayers a couple of crores less, so that's something to be thankful for, I suppose.
I'll ignore for this argument the likelihood that any "savings" are more than off-set by the increased costs of flying these hopeless routes and the fact that the begging bowl isn't going away. _________________ four years free of jetya punti! |

Besides, for every Dreamliner AI puts in the sky, an AI 777 takes up sanyaas on a tarmac somewhere..
So yes, not only is that begging bowl not going away, whatever is put in it will do no good either. _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).

...and they've had enough:

Quote: | Norwegian fed up with Dreamliner problems
The airline has called Boeing in for a meeting later this week.
- We will tell Boeing that the situtatiuon is far from good enough and that the reliability has not been as expected from new aircraft. Boeing apparently don't have good enough quality control, says Norwegian Communications Director Anne Sissel Skånevik. |
Another carrier that is suffering is HiFly - who are leasing birds to fly to the States instead, whenever their fleet of 788s go down. Which is every other day.
The 787 is a joke. _________________ Yeah. |
