I thought India will become a no.1 ODI team only if we had white-washed the series against England. Thats not going to be.
Even if we are it all depends on how well we do in all the ODI series be it home or abroad against all the teams.
Remeber what happend to us when we were no.1 test team. We were white-washed in both the test series against England and Australia. _________________ www.flickr.com/G-BYGB photos |

ODI, T20 #1 = Meaningless.
In tests, we are #5. _________________ Yeah. |

Quite right, who is interested in the Pyjama Parties anyway?
Test Cricket is the real deal.
The upcoming series against the Aussies is going to be interesting, particularly if we prepare rank turners. The Aussies have only real spinner in Nathan Lyon and he is no Panesar or Swann. _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).

Lyon is the 13th spinner they've tried since Warne's retirement, but he took a debut 5-fer in Lanka in 2011, so I wouldn't completely write him off. But yes, if we struggle against a guy who was effectively a groundsman at the Adelaide Oval a couple of years ago, we have truly reached the pits. _________________ Yeah. |

Agreed.
Wake me up when India is #1 in Tests. |

Order of popularity in cricket:
ODI
Test
20-20
India is no. 1 where it counts the most. Seriously how many watch or attend 5 days tests any more and it is even less popular in other countries. |

The most popular form of cricket is (unfortunately) the T-20. Just look at the number of countries playing it and the number of cash rich local leagues there are (IPL, BBL, SLPL, Friends Life T20, South African T20 challenge, CLT20 etc). ODIs come nowhere near in popularity.
Test cricket is a niche. It has always had its loyal followers, and always will. Tournaments like The Ashes and the Test Series between the major nations have always been popular amongst real cricket aficionados and this ensures a level of lucrativeness. I don't see Test Cricket dying out, T20 or not.
In fact, the format which has suffered the most because of the advent of T20 is the ODI. There was even some talk a while ago, about doing away with it altogether. It may have well happened had India not won the WC. _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).

The ODI is going nowhere until the 2015 World Cup, as all contracts have been paid for and ESPN will throw a fit if anything otherwise happens (including the broadcaster ESPN Star, and the website ESPN Cricinfo).
That said, I never get excited for a 3-match, 5-match, 7-match bilateral one-day series. I suppose they can elevate its importance by playing it ahead of the test matches as a sort of a build-up to the main event (NZ is the only country who does this), but no - right now they are scheduled just for fun and teams rarely play their first choice XIs in them. _________________ Yeah. |

Pakistan never stood a chance in this series. Khan was the only bloke who toured SA before and he's been in decline for years. Never did much in SA anyway, bit like Dravid - averages in the low 30s there.
Perhaps Gul has been there too, but he's Gul.
As for the Saffas, their juggernaut continues - bundling the Aussies out for 47 in 2011, the Kiwis for 45 in 2012 and now Pakistan for 45. Steyn is an all-time legend.
Equally, the best knocks I have seen played in SA over the last few years have been of the attacking variant. These two stand out above all the rest:
Clarke 151 in 2011

Tendulkar 146 in 2010

Maybe even Cook and Bell in 2009, even though that was played on a turner in Durban

True.
Take a look at Kallis's delivery to get rid of Azhar Ali at 1.46 in this video.

Can't find words to describe someone like Kallis! Amazing how much damage he does even at 37 years _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).

Another very good knock by tourists Younis Khan and Asad Shafiq in South Africa. Must rank amongst the best of all time.

Younis is excellent when in form. This match is interestingly poised. _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).
