Nokia's 1100 handset: over 200 million served
The Nokia 1100 hit the market in late 2003, just in time to catch a major growth wave in emerging markets like China. With a torch light, no-slip grips, and a dust-proof case, the little phone was made for the new growth regions.
Nokia said on Thursday that the entry-level 1100 and its heirs had surpassed the 200 million-unit milestone. The 1100 and its followers - 1101, 1108, 1110, 1110i, 1112 - have crept to the top of sales charts around the world without attracting much media attention.

Wow - unbelievable that the "lowly" 1100 has sold 200 million units. Kudos to Nokia to launching and sustaining the "value" market through the 1100.
Looking at the current 1110 (1100 is not listed at Nokia's site) at: http://www.nokia-asia.com/nokia/0,8764,74820,00.html - it seems quite a distance from the original 1100! |
