Good news for QR and OW!

What confuses me though is the EK/QF relationship in light of QR joining OW. Wouldn't QR have been a more logical choice for QF to jump into bed with? Surely they'd have known this was in the air?

Of course this well and truly sews up the Kangaroo route as being Oneworld territory - though there's still SQ that is competition, pretty much everyone else is now Oneworld.

A thought for *A/ India as well - suddenly LH/ UA should feel further threatened about what they're up against - and hopefully they'll move faster with 9W (if it does not implode by then), or may be even reconsider AI Twisted Evil

May be AI should now consider joining oneworld to replace KF. QR's joining is a huge addition to Oneworld and India firmly will be a oneworld territory for years to come.

Qatar Airways to formally join oneworld Oct. 30

Oneworld has confirmed that Qatar Airways will become a full member of the alliance Oct. 30, just one year after the airline was invited to join.

The transition has involved Qatar setting up working groups spanning 20 streams of activity. Qatar is now finalizing a number of projects aimed at bringing its various internal processes and procedures into line with alliance requirements. After clearing an audit performed by sponsoring carrier British Airways, Qatar has received the all-clear.

“Qatar Airways completes its oneworld implementation program just one year after receiving its invitation to join, announced at a press conference in the alliance's New York home in October 2012. This will make its induction into oneworld one of the fastest in the alliance's history. Normally it takes around 18 months for any airline to be readied to enter any alliance,” oneworld said in a statement.

Kudos to QR and OW!

It seems that the only region of the world where carriers are not in an alliance is the Indian sub-continent.

So almost exactly one year later, QR have joined oneworld.

With one-stop connections to a host of destinations on around 100 weekly flights from a dozen Indian cities, things are suddenly looking very up for oneworld in India.

In addition to the usual BOM/DEL/HYD/MAA suspects, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Calcutta, Calicut, Cochin, Goa and Trivandrum all got onto the oneworld westbound network.

And alliance membership remains a faraway fantasy for our dear airlines, just as it did years ago. Plus ca change and that.

^^ Well - Oneworld is great for those flying J, but for cattle who fly - Oneworld membership does not help much. Checked on QR's oneworld partners page - 100% miles for most one world partners only when flying full fare Economy (Y, B). This sucks big time.
