NEW DELHI: A Delhi-bound British Airways flight from Istanbul made an emergency landing at Tehran on Friday after some technical snag.
The plane that took off at 1900 hrs (Istanbul time) made the unscheduled halt after two-and-a-half hours of flight, according to information reaching here.
The BA plane had about 127 passengers onboard, most of them Indians.
A passenger on board informed that the plane was forced to land at Tehran and the cabin crew informed the passengers that it was due to a technical snag.
The pilot, R Cecil, informed over the phone from Tehran that the landing there was due to some electrical problem that the plane had developed.
Some spares were being sought from Istanbul and it would take about two to three hours for the necessary repairs to be carried out and the plane to take-off for Mumbai, he said.
The Turkish Airlines got the passengers to disembark and rest at the terminal while the repairs were being carried out. |

First para in the article states,

I guess the guy had too much of sheesha last nyt while writing this article  I think its a turkish airlines aircraft otherwise why wud turkish airlines authorities get pax disembarked that too at tehran while the aircraft on BA....
Terrible reporting DNA utter shamefull on their part

Interesting side story about the emergency landing in THR:
An Israeli tourist had to endure several gut wrenching hours in Iran, after a Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul to India had to perform two emergency landings in Teheran

Interesting article.. was wondering abt the same whn I heard of this news.. Iran does not grant visa to Israelis n people with Israeli visa on their passport!! Any idea what wud happen in such cases if the pax had to leave the terminal?! |

Contrast the earlier link I had posted from the Jerusalem Post (an Israeli newspaper) with this article from the Iran News.
Israeli receives VIP treatment in Iran
An Israeli man reported VIP treatment after his Turkish Airlines flight was forced to land in Iran, UPI reported.
"At first ... I was scared to death," Medvediev said. "But they were very nice to me and even invited me to visit Tehran again. I told them, 'Let's make peace, I invite you to come to Jerusalem'."
Medvediev said the Iranian security personnel even gave him a wooden box as a souvenir from his visit.

In such cases countries have to be VERY CAREFUL to avoid any international problems.
