Not much help here Mel we all knw VT-SDL B763 is long gone. DGCA info is outdated u mentioned the date anyways...

I guess Gecas can confirm whether the 2 738 hav been delievered or not... Any email address of the public relation office of Gecas??

Sahara to start flights to Kl, eyes middle-east

KOCHI: Private carrier Air Sahara will commence operations to Kuala Lumpur from March 19 and hopes to get government clearance to start services to the Middle-East by January 2008, a top airline official said today.

"The three-year restriction imposed by the government for private airlines to operate services to the Gulf sector ends by December this year," Air Sahara President Alok Sharma told reporters here.

The press report has answered our question of any new aircraft joining their fleet they have 27 aircrafts as of today which includes 7 crjs, so that means 20 737

the turnover for this fiscal is touching 2200crores

Got in on S2-6134, PNQ-DEL late night flight, arrives DEL at 0005 but was late by about 45 minutes. The CRJs (VT-SAQ is what I was on) are showing their age, rattle all over and tatty falling apart inside, the ovens don't work, the bathroom stinks up the whole aircraft and things are generally looking sad. Maybe I am getting spoilt by LCCs like Indigo and Spicejet with their new aircraft.

I think Air Sahara will have to work on their airplanes if they want to get anywhere. Or become a low lowcost airline.

Another thing, there were three flights leaving from PNQ to DEL almost together last night, Indigo/2120, Jet/2135 and Sahara/2200. Indigo ticket was over 9k, Jet was at 7k and Sahara was at 6k. I had an unused Sahara coupon with a 5k value, so used it.

But what is the message from the prices? Are the LCCs getting a premium price for newer aircraft?

CRJ witnessing wing trouble...

An Indore-bound Air Sahara Flight had to return to Delhi Thursday after malfunctioning of its wings, airport sources here said Friday.

"The S2-6147 flight had left for Indore at 6.10 pm to reach its destination at 6.57 pm with 43 passengers on board. But due to a hydraulic system failure, its wings were not functioning properly," a reliable source said.

I think it's just a yield management issue, the LCCs are doing a good job of hiking up prices at the last minute if they've already got good loads on the flight. S2's either not got good loads, or does not have such a dynamic pricing scheme? I'm guessing it's just the lack of loads.

Reliable source says "Wings not functioning" Smile why don't the press recruit Aviation Experts.

Looks like a Hydraulic failure hence the Ailerons were manually controlled looks like the cause.
Not as serious but def Abnormal.

Hi mates had a word with S2 customer care. KUL is off the block due to commercial reasons. So the milk run DEL-KUL-SIN-DEL wont be happening anymore. S2 has got a serious knack of announcing new routes with much fan fare and then quietly removing it without anyone,s knowlege...

so nw DEL-SIN-DEL remains . I wish someday they lease a couple of widebody jets...

WTF!!! This is truly done Sahara Ishtyle - make some big announcements, load in GDS, and then pull it off without a whisper. Off the block due to "commercial reasons" - hey I wonder what changed in the past 2 weeks between announcing and pulling the route?

S2 is only getting worse with each passing day (from the commerical/economics perspective).

Just got back from India, and had the chance to experience Sahara for the first time. I have to admit that while they may not have model-wannabes in short skirts and PTVs in every seat like Kingfisher does or the sophistication that Jet has, they're an incredible value. The 737-800 from Delhi to Mumbai was clean, smart, and new (the livery looks so much better when seen in person than in photographs), the cabin crew courteous, and the meal service (a subway sandwich and a chocolate brownie) more than adequate for a 4 pm departure (I personally find Subway deplorable, but that's not the point). Oh, and the uniforms they have for the female FAs is absolutely gorgeous, enhancing the charm and good looks of the 2 female FAs onboard. The saree is so much nicer than Kingfisher's tight red skirts or Jet's ANA-style business suit uniform.

Also the one way fare from Del to Bom was only Rs. 1500. What a steal when compared to Jet's Rs. 4000 and Kingfisher's Rs. 4500.

I guess there nothing commercial in this they actually seem to be facing an acute shortage of Boeings aircrafts. Once the 767 was returned back to the lessors 2 738,s were suppose to join them bt the same hasnt happened.

The latest baby they have is B738 VT-SJJ. Look at wat happened to PNQ. DEL-PNQ flights always operated with fantastic loads on the boeings inspite of that the same were lowered to CRJ,s.... I guess Veeresh can throw more light on this since he ws a regular on this route...

Their DEL-CMB flights were showing gud loads bt they have also been axed.

I guess all this is happening simply becoz they dnt have aircrafts with them.

I had similar experience in BLR-HYD route, though I got paratha and aloo tikki for breakfast.

At last, someone who agrees with me that the Sahara FAs in saree look pretty good, and better than IT/9W FAs!! I was bowled over by the Sahara female FAs on BLR-HYD flight Wink

The aircraft bought Koirala....must be from KTM...do they fly to KTM??? I guess it has to be a 737

It did not bring in Koirala. He had arrived at the international terminal on a scheduled flight and had to be transferred to the domestic area internally to avoid the traffic jam on the highway. His carcade was held up so that the S2 a/c could land.

Sahara is moving to Terminal 1 A

In a move that would end Indian’s exclusivity over the Delhi airport’s spacious 1A terminal, SpiceJet and Air Sahara are being shifted from terminal 1B which is now being used by all private airlines barring Kingfisher. While the GMR-led consortium—which manages the Delhi airport now—says the proposal to shift the two airlines into terminal 1A is aimed at decongesting the other terminal, the move has led to speculation about rehaul in space allocated to airlines for domestic departures

1A departure at DEL is pretty much dead with no traffic after the last few IC departures around 8pm/9pm and the last Kingfisher departure to Pune at 9:15pm. At that time, however, 1B departure is still buzzing with activity with a host of late night departures, especially Spicejet.

In addition, during the day, 1B is a total mess. And this is a point I have raised often enough with AAI/DIAL - why should the passenger suffer, regardless of whether s/he is flying full-service or LCC, since s/he is paying the same as airport tax?

But yes, Air Deccan requires its own terminal, sure. Preferably at the cattle sheds of Mehrampur nearby.

Ranchi route is served by the CRJ so i guess its the jinxed CRJ again.

Btw massive route rationalization is in process S2 has cut down its 4th frequency on DEL-CCU nw it has only 3 services operatin on this route.

The battle has entered final phase with hearing being done on daily basis from monday onwards for the failed merger btween 9W & S2.

Panel to hear Jet-Sahara row from Monday

The acrimonious battle between Jet Airways and Air Sahara is entering the final round with the arbitration panel starting final hearing in Mumbai from Monday. Sources close to the affair say that the panel has made it clear that they will focus on whether the specific performance parameters inked in the share purchase agreement were met before the deal fell through in June last year.

Wasn't it a precautionary declared Emergency.The Landing turned out normal as the Tyres were Serviceable.

They never quoted that they want to fly their own metal to US. They have a codeshare with AA on the DEL-ORD flight and they are utlizing that. They are consolidating themselves. Currently scouting for more 738,s besides the 10 owned ones which will come in around 09.


Finances a problem for Sahara naa mate. Does anyone of u guys get HT Mint at home. Recently there was an article where RBI has asked to prune their deposits in their financial arm and convert it into some kind of financial institution the current deposits in the company is in excess of 7000 crores and this is jst liquid cash in one division lets not forget the various malls and properties in Lucknow and various other cities they have then the media channel and God only knows wat not ..

Aviation is one of the businesses for them which is not gettin them much returns so lets rationalize the current assets which are in place than rather go in for full expansion blow more money...

They have their finger in too many pies. Their mutual fund is practically the least popular. Also their housing schemes launched with big fanfare have quietly disappeared-and it is quite difficult to get the money back.

And recently they've stepped into computer business. Some outsourced brand .. and its called as Sahara Computers.
Dunno how they're performing.
Sahara Parivar is under huge debts now. Where's Subrata these days? Rumours that he was 'hiding' since he had a lot of debts.

7000 crores when the scheme is not that popular i wonder what they wud have done if it wud had been popular. Becoz 7K crores is definately a huge amount . Well depends their reality business is doing gud in UP rather than in other parts.

See when a company close ended it generates alot of rumours. We never know hw much cash reserves they have and whats going on. Well they operated DEL-LHR flights for couple of months 4 days a week.

Forget the wide bodies why aren't they getting some of their own CRJs abd nore 737s and returning the leased ones in that case?

Regarding your first point: you are mixing up the mutual fund (which is well documented) and the parabanking activities (which the public has no idea about).

Fortunately, I know the mutual fund industry quite well. Going into the industry website of AMFI, on 31-3-07 there were 32 mutual fund houses with total assets under management (AUM) of over 328,000 crores. The largest three are:

1) Reliance: 46,000 cr (round figure)
2) ICICI Pru: 37,000
3) UTI: 35,000

and the smallest are:

29) Sahara: 180 cr
30) Escorts: 118
31) BOB: 90
32) Quantum 60

This clearly proves that the Sahara mutual fund is a very insignificant player. Further study shows that in the popular categories like equity diversified funds the performance of Sahara funds are close to the bottom.

To sum up: the Sahara group may have some strengths, but wherever proper accounts are available there is nothing great about their company's performances.

They have one project in Lonaval called Amby valley...although the concept is rocking and its located in a beautiful place and all that however earlier there were practically no roads !!! Helicopter was the only mode of construction. The houses were built by bringing ready materials in choppers and putting it together out there.
Last World Cup after India's performence, each player was GIFTED one house and except one or two more THATS all.
They spent like insane but are not getting any customers because of the rates EXCESSIVELY high.

This ws after 9W management entered and started operating the airline. They wanted to use 763 to operate ATQ-LHR flights and hence the route ws pulled down thats wat we call killing a brand. slowly and slowly S2 brand was being killed so that in the end it could be merged with 9W which hasnt happened yet..

Lets see if they get lucky this time....

I had visited that place on a rainy independence day last year. it was pretty impressive and hard to believe that India could build such a place like this , but the lack of demand for a 2.5 crore wooden cottagge on the outskirts of a city with not tha good transport access proved it to be a failure.
