I have come across this picture of an IC B732(VT-EHH) in Glasgow. Is it there for conversion to cargo?

This is most probably the first phase of conversion of IA's 5 737s for cargo.

It is supposed to be an exercise that is timed along the conversion of AI's A310s.

Idea is to have a mix of cargo aircraft types.

Once the 777s start rolling in, the 747-300s are next for conversion.

The last i heard was that there was a 310 in Dresden for conversion. I'm not sure if HH went for conversion, seems more like it was either ferrying an engine. HH had a vacant cavity bay where a 747 engine could go in. We did do a couple of ferry flights for AI in the past as well with the engine.

Hotel Hotel brought back memories where a capn. wrote to maintenance asking them to replace the seat cos it had the cushion coming out and a piece of metal that would end up tearing up the trousers. Mx said that the seat was fine, so every time someone flew HH we'd rip the cushion from the seat till they actually replaced it Smile

I'm guessing this has been discussed here before - do you mind posting a link to that thread so I can refresh my memory on IC's plans?

There were some threads on CD's 737-200s to be converted... as for this confirmation it is wrt EHH.

From what i hear: the 2 aircraft that India Post wants to lease will be in ADDITION to the 5 aircraft that IC/CD's want to op on the cargo routes planned.

IC have tied up with a private courier firm and are launching a new door-to-door package plan which is linked to 5 aircraft. The routes etc are already fixed so its not like they can reduce aircraft etc. i cant reveal the pvt company at this time but you should hear about his publicly shortly.

So the 737's with higher rated engines wil be used for the 5-aircraft programme (mostlikely to be done at HAL Bangalore as part of the pilot project). The 2 aircraft (including EHH perhaps ) are headed for the India Post lease.

either way: the A319's are systmatically taking over the B737 routes op- ed out of DEL like IDR, BHO etc. From May onwards i see A319's replacing the MAA based 737's: which points to more 737 conversions in the offing.

EGM is the lifeline HAWK, you must be knowing it, the main use of EGM is for transporting engines. The aircrafts have been configured like that.
And when EGM goes for major checks, batches of engg are made to work overtime and get the aircraft back within the shortest possible time.
And if there is a requirement of an engine in the time when EGM is due for major maintenance, IC leases army Antonov aircraft (can't remember which...) which is however a more time consuming process...

I doubt... reason because to carry the engines you need to specially configure the aircrafts like EGM ahs been... i don't think the 5 freighters will be configured to carry engines...

Why not.In fact the B732SF door cutout is larger than the B732C.

Not only the door but the eqp inside to hold the engine during the flight... thats the main reason...

EGM is more of a aircraft used by the airline than on a regular service, although it does some regular flights also.

VT-EGM is also a back-up for Pegasus, right, if I am not mistaken? Hot spare and ready to roll, or does it follow the Pegasus 737-200s and while we are at it, what happens to those 737s? Any ideas?

Heard the new ones were still being de-bugged, and I mean de-bugged in the cold war sense, not modern electronics.

Sorry for the coded inputs, but as I said before, my vintage Ford "A" 1930 carries the Pegasus logo on the tail wheel too. Carried.

Well im sure there must be some equipments to hold the engine in the fuselage inflight i mean else the engine might be damaged isn't it ?
Transferring a engine isn't a normal procedure like other cargo goods...correct me Mel...

On the Contarary. Its only Palletised with its Stand minus wheels/wheels retracted.Mounted along longutional axis & Strapped to the Pallet with Straps & Lashings.

We've transported quite a few now.Mostly on B732SFs.

So you must be knowing the process takes quite some time... in the case here it is quite faster because the preparations are already made...
@ COUGAR:
Engine cannot be transported like normal cargo...special precautions have to be made for that
