Denmark is interested in introducing a direct Kolkata-Copenhagen flight, Danish Ambassador in India O L Paulsen has said, says a UNI report.
The report says the Ambassaodr is seriously interested in ensuring a direct flight.
Denmark is very keen in investing in food processing, bio-gas and energy sectors in West Bengal, and on a cultural noterestoring the famous Serampore college and the Danish church, marked as heritage buildings.

Isnt there enough competition already on the Kolkata-Europe sectors. AI,BA,LH provide direct service while GF and EK offer a one stop service. On top of all this there is a strong possibility of BA,LH and EK expanding services to CCU.Will a CCU-Copenhagen flight be economically viable ?

What's the link between CCU and CPH? Given this will be the first Indian service from CPH, won't it make sense to route it to one of the metros like BOM or DEL? Or is there some hidden link between these cities that it makes sense to start from CPH to CCU?

The Danish Ambassador must be high on schnappes. Or India's terrifyingly bad champagne, the Marquis de Pompadour.

Air France has a better shot at establishing a CDG-Pondicherry flight, or TAP a Lisbon-Goa flight before SAS start anything to Kolkata.

Don't you think that there is a potential for 6th freedom pax? As far as I have heard, the supply for "West" to CCU does not meet the demand, especially in peak season

That's possible if CPH is a good hub with quick connections both ways to major cities in the USA/Canada. Here are the SK schedules from CPH to the US/Canada:

SK937 daily CPH-SEA 1545-1645
SK938 daily SEA-CPH 1845-1315+1

SK943 daily CPH-ORD 1535-1730
SK944 daily SEA-CPH 2200-1315+1

SK925 daily CPH-IAD 1220-1500
SK926 daily IAD-CPH 1725-0725+1

SK909 daily CPH-EWR 1220-1445
SK910 daily SEA-CPH 1750-0725+1

So it seems like there are 2 outbound timings (1545 and 1220) and 2 return timings (0725 and 1315). So for seamless connections from CCU to the USA, the flight from CCU would have to arrive at CPH around 1100 and leave from CPH to CCU at around 1430. This way they could feed in traffic to SEA, ORD, IAD and EWR - 4 large metro areas in the USA. Plus 2 of them are UA hubs - so providing connections to all other American cities.
