The air sahara plane which had stuck in the ground after overshooting the runway at BOM has been written off by the insurance companies & auctioned.
The Fuselage is bought by some air hostess training company 100 kms from mumbai.
Refer HT Epaper front page for the image of the plane being taken away via the western express highway. The e-paper can be viewed without registering.

yep.. thats the same aircraft i reported seeing outside the main gate adjoining 2A the night before last. Guessed as much it would be the S2 Boeing 737 that overran the runway, since it was almost a forgone conclusion they would scrap it after letting it rot away for a long time at the airport.
just for the benefit of the other users clickin on the link above.. be sure to select the city as Mumbai for it to show the picture.. since its in the MUMBAI EDITION Front page... the link above directly links to the DELHI EDITION. _________________ If it aint Boeing.. I aint going. |

Looks like unrecoverable aircraft have a future as well.
IA's wrecked A300 went to Frankfinn Institute of Airhostess training.
Now S2 is going off somewhere. |

Well, there is also that old Boeing 707 (727??) lying abandoned as centrepiece at Nagpur Airport (Photos are up at the airliners-india group on flickr . . . I was in Nagpur yesterday ) which can be used. If the bandicoots haven't chewed it up already.
Probably easier to make a mmock-up out of aluminium, but I guess having a real airplane is an attraction, too.
I think there is one more Air Sahara 737-200 lying in junked shape at DEL, you can see it when you roll past their hangars, and some late night Air Sahara flights end up getting to those bays directly sometimes. |

its ok, but be careful because often what's not obvious to you apprears disrespectful to others. Mel specified it twice clearly.
anyways, i just wanted to point that out and didnt mean to snub you. It just appeared you were hasty, and i was prolly too stern. correction in my tone are in order i suppose.

xterra,
A suggestion:
Why don't you edit that post in caps & repost the same thing in small case? We do have the option to edit our own posts.

We are talking about VT-SID.I believe this error came about by not reading the entire thread.
About the Caps. You can edit it.Agree Mistakes occur & it takes courage to admit it.
Now to the topic....
VT-SID had the typical S2 colour livery where as VT-ECP is in the NEPC Skyline Blue lower fuselage livery.

VT-ECP was last operated by NEPC Skylines(Damania Airways). It was originally delivered to Indian Airlines.
It was scrapped at BOM in 2005.
Here is a link to it's picture taken by MEL.

About the pic.I remember Jerry [UA AME handling AI B772] had clicked that pic during his posting at BOM.I've given him credit in the pic too.
Now the wreckage is near the new control tower side.

apparently an olive branch has no meaning for you. i thought you were mature enough to move on and the topic dealth with. Its funny you keep deflecting the blame to all and sundry for your behaviour in the first place.
if i had no better things to do.. i'd really take you on on this quoted text and your apparent slant swipe.. but i'l leave the jerking off on this topic to you. _________________ If it aint Boeing.. I aint going. |

folks!!
lets not make an issue out of nothing. Xterra's query about the registration has been answered, now lets move on.
Before this argument broke up, dear 787 asked if this aircraft was leased from Air Mauritious and MalQ was referring to another abandoned aircraft at Nagpur?? anybody having info on that.

Looks like it is now going to end up with the latter. There is a story in the Times of india Bangalore Edition today stating that the plane is stuck in a narrow gully after the driver of the trailer was given wrong directions and went into a dead end instead of turning into the BOM PNQ highway near Chembur. As per reports it is going to be very difficult to revese the vehicle back to the main road.
It also mentions the fuselage was bought reportedly for a sum of 59 lakhs. |

I WANT AN AIRPLANE (wrongly parked) IN MY SIDE-ROAD TOO!!
Yes, this report is there in today's Delhi Edition of the TOI too, so it must be correct? Here is the link:-
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Cities/Mumbai/Planes_late_wings_off_but_fruits_fresh/articleshow/1994561.cms
Something seems to be amiss, though. I can not believe that a truck driver or a transport company, especially one put in charge of an oversize movement, would make a wrong turn of this sort. All sorts of police clearances, road route maps, payments en route, clearances, escort vehicles etcetc are required before such a move can even be initiated. I feel that this may have been a deliberate ploy, it happens.
To give an example, to move even a 45' container, only 5 feet longer than the standard 40' container, requires all sorts of permissions. To move anything oversize, especially on Bombay roads, takes a lot of planning, paperwork, and must have been done in this case too. Leave alone an airplane, try moving a Delhi registration car on this road at night and see how many times you get pulled over . . .
So how did this truck take a left turn on the Duke's Mangola factory road in Chembur? Unless . . . (add conspiracy theory here) |

Thank you for the photos. Chembur now gets an airport, it seems!
One thing very apparent is that the road trailer being used to carry the fuselage is absolutely incorrect and probably not legal. The overhang is way over any legally permissible limits. The answer to this whole thing probably lies with the Mumbai Traffic Police.
Pulling the trailer out in reverse is not a difficult process, and I wonder why this is not being done, what is the real reason? |
