Air Deccan has launched its flight from Delhi to Shimla, making the state capital its third destination in Himachal Pradesh.
The airline is scheduled to operate its flight on this route four days a week - Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The flight duration will be one hour, says a UNI report.
It is being operated by an ATR-42 48-seater. DN currently operates flights to Kullu and Dharamsala from Delhi.
Another airport is coming at Balh in Mandi district, in addition to the existing ones in Shimla, Kangra and Kullu, and DN is looking at operations here.
Due to shorter runway length, the Delhi-Shimla flight will carry only 28 passengers against a capacity of 48 and so, the passengers would have to shell out extra cash!!!! (says Air Deccan chief Gopinath). |

In addition, they've got the state govt to underwrite the cost of some of those empty seats. Good deal for both DN and the Himachal govt, as they definitely need more direct non-stop DEL-Shimla services. |

Wonder how Jagson will cope with this.
Some time back DN was charging 2500 for Delhi-Kullu while Jagson was charging 4650.
However Shimla is relatively accessible by road and rail, while Kullu is not. |
