|
|
With 9W entering into DMM and offering a daily TRV - DMM flight; AI is "retaliating" by increasing their one weekly BOM-TRV-DMM-TRV-BOM run to 4 weekly.
AI 916 TRV - DMM 0900 1110 4h40min Tu, Fr, We, Sa
AI 915 DMM - TRV 2320 0650+1 5hours Mo, Tu, Th, Fr
Aircraft: A310
With this AI's operations to Saudi are as follows:-
1) Dammam
TRV - DMM : 4 weekly A310
HYD - DMM: 2 weekly A310
MAA - DMM: 2 weekly A310
BOM - DMM: 2 weekly A310
DEL - DMM: 2 weekly A310
CCJ - DMM: 3 weekly A320 ( with a technical stop at MCT)
2) Riyadh
DEL - RUH: 2 weekly B744
BOM - RUH: 6 weekly B744
TRV - RUH: 2 weekly B744
COK - RUH: 1 weekly B744
CCJ - RUH: 6 weekly ( 4 weekly A320 (tech stop at MCT) + 1 weekly A320 + 1 weekly B744)
3) Jeddah
DEL - JED: 3 weekly A332
BOM - JED: 4 weekly A332
HYD - JED: 2 weekly B772
CCJ - JED: 5 weekly B772
Total: 46 weekly flights. |

I won't be surprised if the market is large enough to sustain a daily 9W 737 and a daily AI 310! It's ridiculous how much AI ignores these markets! _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

AI 915/916 is one of Air India;s long established flights- been around foir a long long time, even before some of the members here were born used to operate to DHA when DMM was not yet operational. |

Cool - do you think there's enough traffic to sustain a daily 9W and a 4X AI 310 service? Or will there still be a spill over? _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

There should be enough traffic on this route for 11x weekly. AI should really make this a daily flight; their 1 weekly Gulf milk runs are just terrible. |

For the number of Indian expats in Suadi Arabia, it seems not that well served with direct flights. |

The above point is one which is most often overlookd by many arm chair analysts (not that this one is claiming to be an exception )
The largest Indian population in any ME country is Saudi Arabia and the number is so huge that it beats the country which has the next highest expat Indian population by a big margin!!!!
Now to Nadarji's very valid question - answer is simple - while Indian aviation has started coming out of its protectionist policies slowly, compared to what what is happening in Saudi Arabia the changes are at rather lightning speed |

While Indian aviation has come out of its protectionist policies, Saudi has yet to come out of it. In this matter they are far worse than India.
They created havoc in granting slots to 9W at RUH and kept them hanging around with the formal approval. |

Is that the reason why we haven't seen an upgrade of aircraft or RUH/JDH being connected to more cities by 9w? _________________ Causal Determinism : We are hardwired to need answers. Regarding upgrade of aircraft, for 9W per se it makes sense to operate the B737s to RUH, JED. The A332s that 9W have are too "luxurious" for routes to Saudi. Ideally if they had A332s with higher seat count like say 250+, it would reduce the CASM and thus improve yields.
Probably in the future when the B787s come in, they should have a high density configuration.
As far as addition of other cities, yes that is taking time. While AI has the backing of the Indian govt. for rights; 9W has to scrape through the GOI as well as the equally protectionist Saudi Govt. DEL - RUH/JED is on the cards, till they get approval .. the schedules won't be up. |
