TIMES OF INDIA
Hotels fly high on aero show boost
8 Feb 2009
Anshul Dhamija, TNN
BANGALORE: The golden era of Bangalore’s hospitality industry is back with Aero India 2009. But it’s likely to be shortlived.
Over the next seven days, the city’s leading luxury hotels will clock average room rates (ARR) of $600-$800 (Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000) at 100% occupancy.
These are rates last seen between 2004 and 2006, when many had to fly out of Bangalore in the evening, as there were no rooms available.
These figures are 250% to 400% higher than the ARRs in the past 100 days and a 115% growth as compared to the average ARR of Rs 14,000 reported from January to December 2008. Following the Mumbai terror attacks and the global economic meltdown, ARRs had plunged to Rs 8,000, while occupancy touched worrisome levels of 20%-30%.
The Leela Palace is charging Rs 40,000 a night (standard room) during the Aero Show, with its super premium rooms commanding prices in excess of Rs 60,000.
The increase in demand has helped even four-star deluxe hotels like Taj Gateway clock ARRs of Rs 13,000-Rs 15,000, up by around Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000 from their regular rates. Ista has been able to up its ARR from Rs 11,000 to a whopping Rs 23,500 for the next couple of weeks. |

Srini, I went to the show today and i'll be there on the 14th as well. Just give me a buzz when u r at the venue. Easy to assemble opposite to the Omni Tanker
@Kabir:
I am not sure if they let u take bags inside. I didnt see anyone carrying bags, except for the media people and the others who were representing their companies.

Few more:
Jaguar cockpit
Me trying out the F18 simulator
Conclusion:
Surya kiran display was a disappointment, they forgot to do the traditional valentines day special.
Our Sukhoi-30MKI display was the usual one and nothing special.
Sarang display was awesome.
The foreign jets, F-16, F-18E, the Eurofighter and the monster C-17 were just mind blowing.
The static displays were also a disaster, they should have parked the foreign aircrafts where the public could see.
Overall, it was a great airshow. Hope you guys enjoyed the pics.

Great pics!
Lucky you got the IL-76. Saw it landing at Yelahanka on 12th evening just as we were leaving. It was stationed at the 27 end.
Just after this an IAF Avro took off. |
