this is what i got off the net

INDORE: Jet Airways Delhi-Indore flight with 49 passengers and crew onboard here on Sunday had a narrow escape as the flight skidded-off the runway while landing during rains at the Indore's Devi Ahilyabai Holkar airport with five passenger suffering minor injuries.

The mishap occurred when the Delhi-Indore flight was landing at the airport and skidded-off soon after it touched down, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) deputy commandant Nirvikar said.

The city has been receiving incessant rains since Saturday.

At least five passengers suffered minor injuries, he said adding no major injury was reported.

The wheels of the plane broke-off while landing at the run way and it slipped away to the ground, he said.

Senior officers along with the fire brigade have reached the spot to supervise the rescue operation.

A Jet Airways spokesman said in Delhi that investigation was on to find out the cause of the accident.

The media also said that this happened due to a faulty tyre (not sure what they meant) Confused

It was a ATR-72

Had 4 crew. Jet airways statement said that there werent any injuries.

Now with that ATR stuck, their scheudle collapsed for that route as well as others. I think the same ATR flies the DEL-ATQ sector as well

Last night on Star News, they were interviewing passengers who were on board this aircraft. One of them stated that just as we landed, there was a huge thud and then there it was again and again, there were a total of 4 bumps and after that it felt as if we were in a soft muddy area with our aircraft skidding at high speed.

Another said, few of them were injured onboard and one of their cabin crew members had a spine injury and had been rushed to the hospital.

Seems to be major damage to the aircraft. Unconfirmed reports are that the propellers took some of the impact as well.
Times Now TV, and wonder if the correspondent knew what he was talking about, said that airport staff had to sweep away the aircraft tyres and other parts from the runway!!!!!!!!!!! Rolling Eyes
The 7500 ft runway of AhalyaBhai Holkar arpt is now available for operations.

Talking about Jet PR, every website seems to have a 9W popup advertising their US flight. They seem to have saturated the US website market completely.
Even obscure sites like Texas daily and Montana Times have their ad.

9W initially was able to cover up the incident but the facts have a habit of emerging later.

These pictures have surfaced rather late and have not made the headlines in the print and electronic media. If this was an AI a/c, the pictures would have been splashed on the first page of all leading newspapers.

From the pics shown here, the a/c is a complete write off.

Jet seems to have another adventure on its Kolkata-Port Blair flight.

Kolkata ATC spooted pieces of rubebr on the runway and the flight had to return all the way, do a low passover.

Jet aircraft returns with damaged tyre

Thnx Haree for the pics. I didn't imagine that it was so serious. Thankfully no one ws injured seriously, hoping that FA too wasn't.

A writeoff i imagine for this ATR. Is this 1st writeoff for Jet till now??

This certainly looks like an accident with Zero fatalities. Thats the most important part though.

2 Positives:
1) Crew got all passengers off quickly enough
2) There was no fire.

In 14 years of operation and several hundred thousand flights, something like this is bound to happen.

What counts is the preventive measures that airline and authorities take in future.

Bound to happen is not a sentence acceptable in Aviation.

I think that its only a matter of statistical possibility that such mishaps would occur.
Remedial measures may take care of this particular accident for some years, but something else might crop up.

True, but i think that bound to happen indicates as sense of resignation- a sense of accepting fate.
Saying an accident/incident is sadly probable after many decades of operation makes more sense. Word games I know, sorry- it makes a tiny difference. I think we all get the idea though.

Aviation is build on one control line..........Safety First.
Every day there are attempts to make the percentage of safe flight higher than what it is the previous day.
True that there would be situations that would lower this percentage but however small that would be should never reoccur.

Accidents are caused by a rapid sequence of uncontrolled events. The idea is to break the sequence enroute. That whats looked in at Flight safety.

I wouldn’t say it had to be a rapid sequence, or even uncontrolled events- its surprising how tiny factors occurring over a fairly long time span can magnify into a critically dangerous one.,,,, and the amount of corrective action that could be taken is usually significant (its obviously easy to dissect and analyze a crash sitting at ones desk when you have all the time in the world)

But as you implied accidents are always caused by a chain reaction.
As my professor in flight safety used to say, you’re only as strong as your weakest link.

Im sure your professor must have mentioned that strengthening that weak link is what Aviation safety is all about. The technical term is called safety nets.

What I was wondering was how did the FA get injured if you are in your seat with Seat Belt Fastened ? Just a thought!

May he/she recover soon

Not wearing the shoulder harness is one reason. I hope she recovers soon. Its a terrible thing to happen.

Yup, that comment was meant to reinforce the notion that even if 99% of your ‘links’ are 'strong', it only takes one weak link to break it.
Sadly the trick is identifying the break in the chain- correctly identifying the factors in-flight that cause a crash. If one identified it, he/she could/has a much better chance of correcting it obviously.

I think it would be the second or third!

There was one 737-400 or -300 (reg was VT-JAM i think) which veered off the runway immediately on beginning of the take off roll. It was all hushed up using Jets famous PR skills, but from what I was told by a maintenance engineer formerly with IC: it was becoz the bolts holding up the engine on one side came off and the engine on that side hung loose!! Fortunately the engine didnt fall off and the aircraft had still not picked up a lot of speed. But it did veer off the runway and it was a writeoff. I think the flight was to MAA.

Wasnt there a 737-400 to Mangalore which was overloaded (for the runway conditions at IXE) and had a runway overrun? I think that was also a writeoff!! Again i picked this up from the same gossip-vine which is usually quite accurate. The aircraft in question was ex-Malaysian, either leased or purchased second hand. There was some issue with Malaysian airlines after this.

MEL: Perhaps you can crosscheck with your maintenance fellows ka gossip-vine to get the full details? Once you find out, Be a nice boy and Post it here!
