FLIGHT #2: 9W2354 CHENNAI-BENGALURU 24TH OCTOBER 2014
So Dad and I had just landed in Chennai after a SriLankan Airlines flight from Colombo, where else. We were on our way to Bengaluru. If you haven't read it yet, please read the first part, where I talk about a super annoying booking process.

LESS ANNOYING BOOKING, YET SO ANNOYING!
So prior to the flight, obviously there were bookings to be made for this flight. I debated which airline to go on. Air Costa? Unbelievably high prices. Air India? Only one flight, too early for us. IndiGo? Too early one flight, too late the other. SpiceJet? All Q400s, something for the MAA-CMB flight. AirAsia India? Too early and too late again. That left us with Jet only, and there were a large number of flights evenly placed through the day. Some of them ATRs, the others B737s. I wanted a B737 flight, since I’ve had only one Boeing flight so far in 2014, and that wasn’t on the classy B737. 9W2354, the MAA-BLR-GOI flight is one operated by a B737, departing at 1110, which beautifully complemented our 0840 arrival from Colombo. And thankfully, all 3 award tickets (2 Y and 1 J) were available. Nicked it!
So then, I selected for 2 passengers, 10k miles and some few hundred rupees for the surcharges and all. Had to use credit card for this, net banking was allowed only on the full tickets. First time, went through the gateway, failed to get a PNR, no miles or cash taken. Second time, same story. This is when I was beginning to regret a huge cost incurred by choosing this unique combination. However, I decided to two separate bookings for the 2 of us. This time, it worked like clockwork, a PNR generated, cash taken (promised value, no more, no less) and ticket sent to the email soon. Twice it happened, since it was 2 separate bookings anyways. But overall a negative experience. Unsurprisingly so, although I did have positive experiences before, this I saw coming after all the complaints put forward by the other customers, some on this very forum. Also with the new accruals and redemption policies with EY, this does not bode well. Then again, this seems to be a IT issue, something 9W has known to be weak in and perhaps should start getting in the improvements, in this day and age.
Fun fact: At the end of this flight, I'll have flown in 5 Jet Airways/JetKonnect flights in 2013 and 2014, but the last flight in which I earned miles on was way back in 2012!

THE AIRCRAFT?
9W2354 is a Jet Airways JetKonnect flight, (as apposed to Air Sahara - Jetlite JetKonnect flight...1st December 2014 cannot come sooner Rolling Eyes), and is part of the MAA-BLR-GOI flight. With the B73Gs gone, B738s rare and the B73Ws operating in routes where it makes sense to operate B73Ws (such as the ones to IXL..), this flight is always operated by a B73H. Usually ones with the Boeing Sky Interior. I have been only on one Boeing Sky Interior bird so far, VT-JFC in 2012 when it operated 9W619 from BOM to CCU, and rather annoyingly, MAA to CMB in the very same trip as 9W252. While the route doesn't exist anymore, 9W252 will be used as the flight number for the second BOM-CMB flight, the evening flight.

ONLINE AND MOBILE CHECK IN
This process was really smooth on the web, wherein the new system is an amazing improvement from what it usually was till the recent past. However, the mobile check in had a couple of hiccups, as the app hung along the way. But when it did work, it worked well. So overall, a massive step forward for 9W's check in on the web and mobile, and it bodes well for the future, albeit its a bit late now, but better late than never!

FAST FORWARD TO 24TH OCTOBER!
So Dad and I had just landed in Chennai after a SriLankan Airlines flight from Colombo, where else. We were on our way to Bengaluru. After the UL flight on the A340, we were in the middle of walking between the international and domestic terminals, where I left off the action. We were searching for those electric buggies which transfer people between the terminals. They were all parked up in front of the old domestic terminal:

But anyways, we reached the new domestic terminal, went up to the domestic departures level on the second floor. While going up, the leader of the autobots Vinish, updated me on the WhatsApp group confirming that Captain Vinod would be flying VT-JFK to Bengaluru and Chennai, alongside First Officer Govind. So about an hour and fifty-six minutes before the flight, I knew who the front office crew would be! Very Happy

New terminal decency...

CHECK IN, SECURITY, SPOTTING!
Usual check of the tickets by the security, we headed off for the Jet Airways check in counters, which were mostly empty. Since Dad and I had separate PNRs, we decided to spilt into two different check in counters, albeit side by side. Narendra Modi's Swacch Bharat campaign cards were there in typical Jet Airways font, on the counters. We both had largely cheerful chaps, contrary to Rakesh's experience at the same airport, with the same airline, at around the same time. Details punched in, he realized I did a mobile check in, and gave in my pre-printed boarding pass. However the agent was surprised to see so many bags which I would be taking onboard the aircraft! Understandably so, he didn't know my Dad was traveling with me, and he was int he counter right beside. I explained that my Dad would be with me, and we'll split the hand luggage accordingly. The agent still insisted on a weight check: 6.1kgs for the first bag, 6.6kgs for the other. Happy with the weights, he waived us through giving us tags for all bags, and wished us a pleasant flight.

Security was next...no lines. And it was quick, thankfully. However though, they seemed to have an issue with the power bank which I had. They kept the bag for a good 5 minutes, I kept calm. Happy with that, the security babu let me through. All well and good. Dad sat down close to Gate 2. He said to me..'I'll finish my movie now.....' He was watching Dial M for Murder on ADF. I then reminded him - 'Wasn't that on the plane's IFE?' Realizing this, he did a face palm, and settled down to watch another movie on his iPad. I walked away for my second round of spotting for the day, albeit in some not-so-ideal weather conditions.
I had a slight heart attack when I reached gate 2: VT-JGK rather than VT-JFK was parked at the gate. Fearing a last minute rotation swap, I felt low. Just then, I saw: VT-JGK was to head for Pune as 9W2491 (Rakesh's flight) at 0945, so this would NOT be my bird! Very Happy

At Gate 1 was VT-SCS, an A319 operating flight AI509 to Kochi, departing a whole hour after JGK to PNQ.

VT-JGK

I walked around a little bit, I saw Dad stand up and he was staring at the tarmac, and there went an EK B77W drying up the runway with its massive GE90 engines! A6-EGK blasted down the runway operating EK545 to DXB. Such was the might of this beast, even Dad had to stand up and see it depart!

VT-JBB, operating 9W613 to Port Blair.

9M-MPM, a ex-Malaysia bird, now with Eagleexpress Air, leased to Saudia. Perhaps a Hajj charter?

Domestic terminal. The atmosphere in here really made me realize why I miss India so much - so many announcements, all the way around. And they're repeated in their monotonous ways. A million announcements for one flight, multiplied by all the flights in the terminal! And of course, the calls for the passengers who are late for boarding, called by name! These things, are missing in Sri Lanka.

VT-PPQ operating the AI430 ex-787 service to New Delhi

VT-SGX operating SG271 to BOM. Incidentally, SGX is based in AMD, and is now operating a MAA-BOM flight!

I walked back to Gate 2. I peeped over the railing a bit, and there she was! 4R-ADF had been pushed back and was being preparing for departure. But before all of that! VT-JFK landed on the runway after its flight 9W 2408 from Hyderabad.

President has arrived!

The subtle differences of a non-Sky Interior window and a Sky Interior window!

By now, 4R-ADF was holding short of the runway for departure. Annoyingly, I had to wait for a IndiGo arrival, but that was compensated for with this QR A332F arrival:

And then finally, with a decently loud roar, 4R-ADF slowly thundered down the runway, and was even slower in getting off the ground! Unbelievable how this bird can fly!

This would perhaps be the last time I see ADF Crying or Very sad Thank you, and goodbye!

Well...

JFK! Very Happy

BOARDING
At 1026 hours, 1 minute after schedule, boarding was announced for the flight. Another warm 'hello good morning', followed by the BP scan and a 'thank you' greeted us all. It felt a bit robotic though. Walked down the jet bridge, I took a couple of pictures of JFK, but they didn’t come out all that good. A baggage tag check followed after which I was walking closer and closer towards JFK: the familiar sounds of a Boeing 737 came back to me. It was great to be hearing all of this! I tried to take a few pictures here and there, but there were too many people standing. I saw through the doors of JFK: there it was! The unmistakable blue light of a Sky Interior equipped bird! The friendly FA welcomed me onboard and took a look at my boarding pass. And she directed me towards the way of the cabin.. Uh, I appreciate your niceness, but really? Direct me towards the back? There is only one way you can go when you board a narrow body from the front door - to the right. Oh well. At least, she gave me a warm welcome. Felt nice to see the Sky Interior touch screen on the left!

Blueness of the Sky Interior, niceness of the stewardess!

So the bird was configured in a C12 Y154 configuration. The 12 J class seats were the international leather ones, while the economy seats were also slightly new, with a subtle difference in design, with the light blue design pulled towards the side of a newly designed thin seat. There was also a cardboard like thing over the tray tables in the seat in front, compared to the full cushion the other Konnect birds, or the IFE screens in the planes which had them! Another thing which made me smile was - the fact that there was NO advertising on the seat back in the plastic shell! This felt like a Jet Airways flight from pre-2010!
Being a new 1.2 year old bird, you could expect the bird to be very clean. While the plane was largely clean, there were some aesthetic dirt in terms of pen marks on the seats. Also, the window was oily and had marks on them. Not what I was looking forward to, but then again, even SQ’s planes have some aesthetic marks all over…

J class

Around the seat before anyone comes!

My last flights have been as follows: UL A340, SQ A330, SQ A380, BR B747 (premium economy, that too.) So the spoilt brat says: THERE'S NOT ENOUGH LEG ROOM! But then again, the tacky ads are gone! Very Happy

So a word about the crew: after a long time it was a ladies only cabin crew. 3 of them for Y class, and just 1 for J. Premiere had 9 passengers onboard, I counted. I was seated in row 24, and from my point of view, Economy looked decently full! Passengers kept walking in and filling in the seats in front, while one the FAs, didn’t have a smile really, but did her job by helping with the luggage and giving water to everyone. She went ahead and explained to Dad about the emergency exit procedures, something oh so familiar to Dad...

Wing view. I've missed you a lot, 737 winglet! Very Happy

Many pages were torn off of the magazine - what can you expect from the end of the month? BUT HEY! New flight to CMB is advertised here!

Fleet. And soon, the light blue will go away!

You see that LIFE thing? That's the family pooling thing Jet announced barely 3 days ago! Good to see them updated with the times! And legroom, of course.

Oh, how many times its been a hit and miss with you! But today! Its a Sky Interior flight! Very Happy

Many IndiGo A320s passed by, with and without sharklets. There was literally nothing more interesting that went by. Oh and, one of the 6E birds which passed by was VT-IFK, and I was on VT-JFK: something similar happened when in 2012, I was on VT-JFC, we taxied by VT-IFC parked in CCU, while I passed by a KFC restaurant some minutes later on the road....yeah.

A sneaky Dream)liner landed, and I was just in time to get my camera out to get a useless image of the tail tip. However though, I decided to stay in the worst posture possible by turning at an awkward angle as I waited for the Dream)liner to arrive. I saw the tail coming closer, I had a chance to photograph a Dream)liner, YES! VT-ANG had flown in from Singapore...

Selfie camera on to get the overhead panels! Classy Smile

Oh, selfies. How many of them were taken by the passengers! At least 7 people around me took selfies of...themselves Rolling Eyes, I'm sure there were many other people who did the same! I bided my time, and waited. I knew I could do something more epic than taking a selfie on the plane Twisted Evil
There were a slightly...loud..bunch of people behind me. I didn't mind the loudness because they didn't go about hitting my seat or banging the tray tables, slamming them down. (Tray tables extended, by the way, as opposed to the stagnant ones on the Konnect birds). So I was pretty okay with that. There was a yelling baby right in front of me, but he kept quite as soon as the engines were turned on. So I was pretty okay with that too Smile

DEPARTURE
Announcements were being made. Despite the front half looking moderately full, I still had 3 seats to myself! Very Happy
So, 'Welcome aboard JetKonnect flight 9W2354 to Bengaluru, a codeshare flight with partner Etihad Airways...' Well, looks like they are firmly in the Etihad Partners alliance! Very Happy This was good. I guess. Interestingly though, the airplane mode rule hadn't come into effect yet with Jet, as they said 'if your phone has the airplane mode feature, please activate that and turn off your mobile phone.' WHAT! WHY?! Confirming what Vinish said before, Captain Vinod was in charge of taking us on the 35 minute flight to Bengaluru, alongside First Officer Govind. Captain Vinod came over the PA himself, giving us details of the flight, including a cruise altitude of 24000 feet and flying time of a mere 35 minutes. 1103 hours, pushback commenced as the FAs took their positions to do the safety demo: one of them in row 24, GOD DAMMIT! So that meant, no proper video of the start up Sad

3 SEATS FOR ME!

Oh..shoot.

So while she was doing her safety demo thing, I just enjoyed the amazing sound of the CFM56 engines harmoniously being brought into life. This, along with the awesome sound of the flaps coupled with the vibrations right under the seat due to this hydraulic movement is what I call - the long lost sound a Boeing 737NG being started up! It was almost 1 year and 2 months since my last 737 flight, and more than 2 years since I sat on this super awesome seat (25F in the 8/162 config, VT-JGV CCU-MAA 9W844 in October 2012). I was now living the dream of FINALLY catching a Boeing 737 flight in 2014! Very Happy

All systems go, I've come to see the show! Very Happy

EPB parked at the international gate..

Oh why, hello there! Very Happy

A long super-bumpy stopping along the way taxi followed as we headed towards runway 9 for a departure. We made a slightly awkward turn and HOLY COW is what I said in a soft tone: THERE WAS THE LEASED SV B744 PREPARING FOR DEPARTURE AHEAD OF US! She is, no doubt, magnificent, as always.

VT-ANG operating AI346 to SIN and 9M-MXE operating MH183 to KUL.

B-E-A-UTIFUL!

What followed next was a classy and powerful Boeing 737 departure, the CFM56 engines sounded just the way I knew them! We were soon off the ground, too soon rather, and heading for the Bengaluru after almost a 180 degree bank over the clouds over Chennai!

INFLIGHT HEARTBREAK!
The seatbelt signs came on, and the crew took really too long to get the service started: we would be in an already low cruising altitude for really too short! So they first came around giving the SkyMart Diwali offers:

Followed by glasses of water on trays:

Now this is where the heartbreak comes in. While the FA's pulled the cart towards the front from the rear galley, they stopped by and asked me - Mr... er.. Jishnu..? Surprised, I said.. 'Yes'?' In her confused voice, she asked me - 'Do you have your meal voucher with you...?' Before I could say no, (not that I wanted to..I would've loved to get free food on a plane I didn't pay for!) she and her colleague pulled the trolley away. For the next 15 odd minutes, the trolley would slowly inch towards me. There clearly wasn't enough time for the entire plane to be offered food, although it had to be bought! And surely, there was some substance to the question I was asked: why should she stop right at my seat and confirm my seat? This was baffling to me! Also, as time went by, more and more blue boxes of snacks were being given to passengers, who had pre-booked it. This function is not allowed on redemption bookings, but that's besides the point! The FAs had just rejected a meal for me, while there surely wasn't enough for service to be completed! I was getting a bit worried now. More so because the three crew members had stopped in the middle of the aisle, acting absolutely confused and clueless as to what was going on with the snack boxes! And service was very slow. It seemed like almost everyone was buying stuff! Barely 15 rows in to service, I was beginning to doubt if I'd ever be offered a meal during the short flight! Annoyingly, Dad stopped the FAs to buy 2 Paper Boat juices. AND THE CREW HAD NO CHANGE, UGH!
I calmed myself down by looking at the beautiful scene outside:

To make matters oh so horrendous, Captain Vinod came over the PA to announce that descent would be starting soon. Great. No meal for me then. He apologized for the slight delay due to congestion at MAA, but assured us that we'd be on stand at 1200 hours, on time. He also requested all GOI bound pax to remain seated. Weather wise, a nice 23 degree Celcius temperature would welcome us.

DOUBLE JOY IN ARRIVAL!
The nose dipped a bit as we began approach into BLR. The FAs were clearly in a hurry as the sort of rushed through after serving Dad, but I stopped them along the way for a chicken sandwich. Luckily though, they patronized this with a smile, and seemed to rush through the second half of the cabin: poor souls didn't get a chance at the SkyCafe service! Sad

Well, that's my relief then! Never have I been so worried for a chicken sandwich.

In between white bread and brown bread, the edges cut off. While it was cold, it certainly was delicious, but perhaps INR40 too overpriced...

So its a Junglee Sandwich!

While I was having my first sandwich, barely 30 seconds after purchasing it, I was asked by the FA to close my tray table. WHAT! First you do a slow service, and then you ask me to hurry up while eating! Haha, no....
But then again, I'm on a plane. I'd rather listen to the crew than get in trouble on arrival. So I obliged, and shut off my try table. Clouds were starting to gather as we got closer into BLR. I gave the spare change I had for the charity thing...

Winglet shot, Gosh how did I forget about it while in the blue sky! Oh right...threat of no meal.... Rolling Eyes

Slowly, the flaps were extended and landing gear down, we were all set for a Runway 9 arrival.

Capt. Vinod and F/O Govind made a feather like landing at 1157 hours and made the long taxi towards Gate 1 at Bengaluru. On the way, there was the A380 gate which I saw, ING Vysya bank ads on the aerobridge rather than HSBC, the weekly SV896 RUH-BLR flight (A333 HZ-AQC), MH105 to KUL 9M-MXJ. We parked right next to VT-WAG, an G8 A320 which had arrived from DEL as G8115.

Engines cut out, about 20 people got up from the seats, including Dad and I. As I got up and turned back, I saw: none of the seats after row 25 had anyone sitting on it! This prompted a severe doubt in me: would the crew have ever managed to get the B.o.B service done for the entire plane, assuming everyone wanted to buy some food? I got my meal on descent, and they skipped about 10 odd rows because they were completely empty. Hmm..

Anyways, all pax disembarking at BLR were asked to have their boarding passes in hand just in case. I went up through the cabin, as many passengers were still eating. I went up to the front and asked the lead FA: 'Can I have look the cockpit please?', to which she nicely said, 'Please wait for a minute here sir, there is someone in there, once she's done, the Captain will let you in..' Well, this looked good then! One of the FAs saw the SQ861 sticker on my camera and instantly made the 'super impressed' face. Behind me, the catering truck was coming up:

I saw the Premiere meal on the MAA-BLR segment: it consisted of a sandwich, with some coleslaw, more mayo, chicken or veggies, and a nice rich looking chocolate mousse. Half of them were eaten, half of them weren't. 2 pax were sent back inside to the plane because they were headed for GOI, and they thought BLR was GOI! I began to notice that with all my bags around, I was creating a mess in the small galley area Rolling Eyes
But soon, Capt. Vinod called me inside. I introduced myself and mentioned that I knew our very own Mr Vinish through the means of social media. ‘Oh, he should’ve SMSed me then..!’ Oh well. We went on with the conversation. ‘So what brings you here?’ asked Captain Vinod. ‘I’m here for a test of some sort, I stay in Colombo…flew into Chennai on the A340 this morning…’ He asked ‘SriLankan Airlines?’ ‘Yes!’ I said. I asked him if I could take a picture of the cockpit, to which he said yes Smile Seizing the opportunity to go 7 better than selfies, I struggled to sit in the first officer’s seat: I nearly tripped on so many instruments, which perhaps would’ve set some alarms off! After this, I thanked Capt. Vinod and the rest of the crew for such a wonderful experience before heading out of JFK (the bird, not the airport Razz ) What a nice person, I thought! In fact, all pilots whom I've met were mostly pretty kind and fun to talk to! 6E after my flight from CCU to BOM, AI after the B787 flight, UL wherein the A320 Captain to BOM called me during cruise, Captain Vinod here, and one more to go Smile

Finally. The cockpit of a Boeing 737! Next target: wide body!

I saw first officer Govind along the way, but he was too busy with something so I couldn't greet him. I headed down to the arrivals hall after a fairly long walk, it later hit me that my gate was in fact part of the new extension to the existing terminal! I met Dad along the way and we booked a cab before heading out into the pleasant weather of Bengaluru! The long drive to IISC was good fun - it reminded me why I miss India so much (except for the litter around Sad)

Arrivals at BLR!

Look, I was being watched again! Razz

Outside. That design is pretty cool!

We passed by the Yelahanka airbase. I instantly remembered my childhood wherein my Dad would take me there for the Aero-India airshow every 2 years! But for once, it wasn't empty. Boy I saw one of the most unique Boeings around - the C-17 Globemaster! Beautiful, it was. And such was the beauty, many people stopped their cars and trucks, went on the roof to see it, there were easily about a hundred people admiring it!
Sure, its not allowed, but the driver knew I'm an avgeek somehow, so he slowed the car down:

After this followed the Jakkur Airfield. What happened here? I distinctly remember being on a microlight wherein one of Dad's friends' took me up for a quick flight!
But this day, there was a Cessna Grand Caravan parked far away from the airplane taxiway and runway.

Interestingly though, one of the sides of the runway cannot be used, quite simply because the flyover is there to get in the way! Surprised

HELLO BENGALURU!
It was a good 40-odd minute drive from the airport to the Indian Institute of Science. Or the Tata Institute, what ever it is....
We met our relatives who kept us in their house. The chill factor of BLR was getting to me as I started to feel colder and colder. Hours passed by as we chatted about how embarrassing my childhood was Rolling Eyes
Soon though, we went out to a prominent Bengali restaurant (not exactly a restaurant, might as well call it the dhaba type thing...) to buy some amazingly awesome Kolkata rolls!

What followed next was something I barely talked about in the build up to this TR. Behind the scenes, 2 of this forums moderators Nimish, Varun and I were planning a mini AI.net meet. The number of options Nimish places before me were simply overwhelming! But the issue was - a late lunch in Koramangala, that is almost a 2 hour drive from the airport. A very late late lunch was surely not the way to go, so we decided on meeting up close by to the institute, specifically the Chung Wah restaurant.
7pm was the meeting time. However, for once, I could not keep up with my usual on-time standards. I was there about 15 minutes late. I had met Varun during my last trip to Bangalore in late 2013. However though, this was the first time I met Nimish. They're both a great company and I had some pretty good (mostly aviation related) conversations with them! I also had some questions about flying into a certain country (more details soon!) for next year, the answers I got would certainly be very helpful for me to plan ahead. The Chung Wah restaurant served some pretty good food! Nimish, Varun; I'm sure you're reading this, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedules and making the meet happen! I truly appreciate your inputs, especially the tips for flying in to the country in question. Varun, I don’t always fly around, oh how I wish I could! Razz My next flight(s) will be to the country in question. Wink
After about an hour and a half, I got back home and just…crashed! Quite literally. The cold weather and the soft bed meant that I had to wake up for dinner, had that with eyes half closed, and nearly dropping my head on to the table a couple of times! Dinner consisted of some mutton biryani, which was nice and spicy!

To end this part on a unique note, I just want to highlight the fact that I had no less than 7 meals on the 24th of October, 2 of them on a plane! This is one record I hope that will never be broken! Razz
In the next part which I’ll post next week: this forum’s third AirAsia India trip report!

Regards
Jish

Excellent TR, Jish.

When was the last time Jet ever refreshed their website? It's getting old, Jet. They haven't even updated their schedule pages. So many old info on JetPrivilege, and the list goes on......

Tell me about it. I can't wait for 1st December. 2 reasons why Wink

Many pages were torn off of the magazine - what can you expect from the end of the month? BUT HEY! New flight to CMB is advertised here!

I'm pissed that they didn't advertise 2nd Daily BOM-DOH service.... Sad

Oh, how many times its been a hit and miss with you! But today! Its a Sky Interior flight!

So its a Junglee Sandwich!

Hmm..

Must have. But, I think they'll make up for it in case those same passengers continued onward to GOI.

Quote:
Anyways, all pax disembarking at BLR were asked to have their boarding passes in hand just in case. I went up through the cabin, as many passengers were still eating. I went up to the front and asked the lead FA: 'Can I have look the cockpit please?', to which she nicely said, 'Please wait for a minute here sir, there is someone in there, once she's done, the Captain will let you in..' Well, this looked good then! One of the FAs saw the SQ861 sticker on my camera and instantly made the 'super impressed' face. Behind me, the catering truck was coming up:

Superb shot! And nice of her to let you in!

Quote:
Look, I was being watched again!

Hehehe...

Thans Jish for a lovely TR and the mention as well Smile Great to see your experience at the Jet Checkin desks.Regarding VT-JGK even I wouldnt have wanted to fly on that one to PNQ. Razz MAA-BLR is a very short sector for the 320/737.Indigo just hands over pre-booked meals and once during my flight back from BLR they weren't able to complete even that because it was a full flight and most of them had pre booked meals Razz Regarding the crew,I see its a mixed bag.As far as the aircraft is concerned I really feel they can maintain it a bit more!
Quote:
I began to notice that with all my bags around, I was creating a mess in the small galley area Rolling Eyes
But soon, Capt. Vinod called me inside. We went on with the conversation. ‘So what brings you here?’ asked Captain Vinod

This is exactly what happened to me on JFH!I too was standing in the galley blocking the way!Same captain and identical scenes and conversations!Only thing was the captain was in the washroom when I was waiting LOL Razz The first qustion He asked me was the same!

Quote:
In fact, all pilots whom I've met were mostly pretty kind and fun to talk to! 6E after my flight from CCU to BOM, AI after the B787 flight, UL wherein the A320 Captain to BOM called me during cruise, Captain Vinod here, and one more to go

Even I am lucky to have met some really nice pilots!Indigo tops the list!I have met the crew on almost all my Indigo Flights and most of them are super cool!Captain Vinod is a cool guy as well!I know You met another one cool guy too Wink Young crew s the word :p

Behind the scenes, 2 of this forums moderators Nimish, Varun and I were planning a mini AI.net meet

So sad we couldnt catch up at MAA!Probably next time!

Once again a very good TR featuring the 737 on my favourite domestic sector Very Happy Looking forward to the other parts too!

Couldn't agree more. Might as well operate ATRs and Q400s, but 6E and I5 do not have those! I'm not sure about LB - how fast are those ERJs?

Exactly why I said in the title - conflicting! Both of these factors were a mixed bag, really Sad

I have a variety Wink
Yes, you sure do know who the next awesome captain is! Next Sunday, for sure Very Happy
The 6E captain I met was a bit more on the highly experienced side, but I'm sure pilots as a whole are a wonderful bunch of people, and respect to each and every one of them for the wonderfully awesome job they do: having 100+ lives resting on you is surely no easy task!

What a lovely TR! I was waiting for this one, eagerly. There had been a neat difference in writing style in the first part, when you put some photos as links in the ordinary text, and posted the more important of them. No, I love all photos being a part of the text as well! Just as always, subtle in-text links to related matter looks quite classy.
- Award tickets: oh, so Jet also has only two X class (Economy redemption/award) tickets per flight!
- No Net banking for an award ticket? Any particular reason, or is Jet a bit behind schedule, in updating their systems? Ditto for why a redemption booking cannot have food booked on it, either during the booking process, or later on.
- Great for you to hear from a front officer, on fellow colleagues in the front office! The alphabets in the names of the Captain and the F/O are also similar.
- Lovely pictures from all around! The airport, in-flight, at Bengaluru...a treat! The bank over the clouds after take-off was really classy! Great shots of the front office, as well. It is also nice to be able to click both the iarfields on the way to the city, Yelahanka, and Jakkur! And you are certainly lucky, to have been at both of these places.
- I've never managed to get a SkyInterior'ed B737...great of you to get JFK!
- The IISc/Tata Institute...I haven't been there for quite some time. The cab ride would have taken around Rs.750 or so...right? Did you turn right at Mekhri circle?
- Calcutta-style rolls, first done with egg. Hmm...my Bong friends around go ga-ga over this. But nice shot, with the green balloon looming up like an ice cream scoop!
- Great of you to meet up with Nimish and Varun! I will try to meet up with them close to the IISc (Nimish and Varun, I'll send you emails, soon). It shoudl be very close for Varun, but for Nimish, it is really a good distance away. Chung Wah: I have patronised a Delhi version of the same. Nice `Chinese' food.
- Interesting heads-up about the next foreign trip...no, I cannot guess this one.
Thanks a lot for sharing this lovely gem with us!
Cheers, Sumantra.

With the type of screenshots I was taking, it looked like a royal mess in here, and might've taken a lot of time loading for those who might have a slow internet and aren't interested in seeing those many screenshots, hence I have linked them into the text...

sumantra wrote:

Be it the ATR or the B77W: 2 Y redemption tickets, and 1 in J (not the ATR, of course!)

You have answered your own question, sir. Jet are just too backwards in time. Once again, here's hoping EY are surely looking into this!

UK BOM-DEL
AI B788 (hopefully!) DEL-CCU
SG CCU-BLR-BOM

Interesting. I have flown on "KFC" quite a few times. The Kingfisher bird. now suffering the pangs of redundancy a second time along with sister KFD as their new master, the Italian charter airline "Livingston" has just ceased operations.

Sir, I remember VT-KFC as well. I think it was one of the last few IT A320s to actively operate from DEL before they shut shop. I have seen it on the morning runs quite a few times at DEL in IT's final year of operations.

Exactly my point sir - while JFC and IFC are flying around, the only
KFC I saw that day was not an A320, but rather the restaurant that sells fast food. Its really unfortunate how VJM shor himself in the foot like that Sad
Its even more disheartening to know that KFC/D are going through another phase of redundancy Sad

Haha! Only you can pull these minor (yet majorly funny!) ones off! I'm sure Dr. Mallya will be mighty pissed right now since both this cars have retired from the USGP!

Nice pictures always!

INR40 for a sandwich is not overpriced, it's fairly priced. In normal supermarkets you would get it at INR 30 to 35

BTW loved the heavies at MAA.

Thanks Ojas!
What I meant was: the sandwich was INR40 too overpriced, by which I meant that the price of the sandwich was INR190, but I felt it was worth INR150...
If that made sense Rolling Eyes But that's just my opinion, I could me wrong...

I've always found something or the other interesting in MAA - in terms of wide body planes. The spotting session I had that day reaffirms that!

My bad.

INR 150 to 190 is overpriced indeed.

I had a pre booked Meal on Spicejet once on one of my many Pune Sharjah trips; while the price seemed right, the quantity was pretty less.

..and how many times have we seen that on the WhatsApp group! And now, with SG's new pre-booked meals pricing policies, it does seem a whole less worth the money..might as well have some food before boarding the flight then!
