Does anyone have any information on what is going on with VT-ANI, as it has not flown since 22nd April, 2014.

VT-ANI, is the first Charleston built 787 Dreamliner and it has been 4 months that she is on the ground.

Cheers,
Nishant

Rumours suggest that she's been cannibalized for spares for the rest of the fleet.

It wouldn't surprise.

To be honest, I highly doubt that its being cannibalized. The 787 family is too new in general for AI to do this to one of its aircraft. Plus, isn't it more expensive to park a 787 for months, than to buy spares? Rolling Eyes

On the other hand, if the cannibalization rumour is true, why do it to VT-ANI in particular, why not one of the earlier built airframes?

If it is being cannabalised, then it would be beacuse it might be AOG due to some snag which needs rectification. Hence flyable parts from the aircraft would be used to make others fly, meantime replacement parts would arrive and it will be used on ANI. This is how cannabalisation works.

Cheers

Totally agreed. But, this is a currently produced model of an aircraft we are talking about, spare parts won't take almost 4 months to arrive will they?

(Almost 4 months the aircraft has been on the ground)

Almost 5 months actually. No idea about the poor aircraft, but can I be mean and say this is AI we are talking about (since when does cost/sound practice take top priority Laughing )

Yup and it would be really sad if this is indeed true considering 'November India' was the first 787 airframe to come out of Charleston Plant. Something Boeing must be proud of, I am sure. Or may be not, considering she is on the ground Crying or Very sad
