With United having retired the former Continental birds earlier this year, American retiring theirs in early 2014, and US Airways quickly replacing theirs with the A330s, I had to take the opportunity to fly aboard the 767-200ER, arguably the last classic widebody airliner in service in North America.

Having flown aboard the -300ER and the -400ER, the -200ER was the only 767 sub-type I hadn't been experienced (and I doubt I will ever have the chance to fly the non ER -200 and -300 variants).

I decided to fly US' 767-200ER also because it was the only aircraft in the fleet of my former employer that I never had the chance to fly aboard while working for them.



It would also be a rare treat to fly a (classic) widebody on a domestic US route, as US Airways deploys their 767-200ER on the MCO-CLT-PHL sector on certain days. Last week I decided to take the time to catch a ride on the CLT-PHL and PHL-CLT runs.

As always, I'll let the pictures do the talking.

Deb, thanks for an interesting TR! The short and stubby flat-nosed B762 is an interesting bird to look at, and it was nice to read your TR on it. Nice pictures, too. Thanks for sharing this with us!

Awesome pictures!
The B767 is surely a good looking aircraft!
Well, I doubt if I can ever get a ride in one of them, sadly, the -300/ER, -200/ER, -400ER, etc...

Great TR - thanks for posting. I've just had my BIL booked on this bird - flying CLT-GRU-CLT next week. Of course he has no idea about a/c types, so he was least interested in this being a 767-200 variant. I was stunned to see the small J cabin and the poor J product on this bird, definitely not suitable going on an intl. long haul flight. Luckily (or not), he's flying Y - so it did not matter much, but flying on this sector will let him reach his first ever UA gold status...

Did you drive or fly up to CLT?

US Airways set to end B767 operations

US Airways has provisionally scheduled its last commercial B767-200(ER) flight for February 11 World Airline News has reported. The type's last flight, US 1978, will be from Charlotte to Philadelphia Int'l.

According to the ch-aviation aircraft database, there are currently five airframes in service with US Airways with sister carrier American Airlines having retired the type in May last year.

Aside from Japan Air Self-Defence Force and the Aeronautica Militare Italiana which are military operators, the only commercial operators of the type will be UTair, Dynamic Airways, Jet Asia Airways, Jordan Aviation, AeroMéxico, Air Zimbabwe, and Mid East Jet.
