Effective winter 2010, Aeroflot will increase capacity from daily B763 to daily A330-200.

A change from B763 to A332 should mean a better in flight product, IMO.

Haven't they been selling tickets dirt cheap? They almost always show up as the cheapest on practically every route I fly.

Looks like Aeroflot has changed its mind about the 330/767 mix for SVO-DEL and will use the 763 exclusively this winter for its daily flights.

Sweet!

On a separate note - EK (37K) is much more expensive and comparable with BA/ RJ et. al. who are in the 38-40K range! Yet I wonder why EK is so consistently accused of "dumping" while in reality I've yet to see EK being significantly cheaper than the competition (except perhaps when they launch a new route)...

Try checking prices ex-BLR. EK consistently features in the cheapest 3, if not the cheapest.

Well - this search (BLR-MAD though September) is not helping at all - QR - 30K, AF - 35K, and EK 132K!!!!

Similarly tried to look for the lowest fares on BLR-HEL through September for a 15 day stay and it turned up LH at 35K, BA at 46K, and EK at 63K.

On BLR-SFO through September for a 15 day stay, got AF/DL at 52K, EK 62K, LH 68K etc.

All these searches were done on: http://matrix2.itasoftware.com/ - with the lowest fare search looking for the calendar of lowest fares for a month starting September.

EK started MAD recently in May IIRC,

I guess their flights are going full because of under 400 Euro promo tickets from MAD to hkg sin bkk sel etc

EK's website shows a fare of Rs. 31,944 for 14 sep r/t 21 sep. QR too is the same 31.5 K. And the cheapest.

If you observe the flights, it is not MAD, but the early morning 0415 hrs flight which is sold out. Those EK flights out of India which leave at 0400 - 0500 hrs are their best performing ones.

I hate those flights — getting up at like 2am (or staying awake till 5am). That itself nearly disqualifies EK for me (of course I don't like anything about them other than their great IFE either...).

Interesting point - I did not realize the 4 am flight was sold out causing the fares to go up. I think bottom line - if you look really hard, you may find EK/ QR as the cheapest, but on regular connections (like perhaps the 4 am flight which is the one business travelers will prefer due to better connections?), it's often no slam dunk.

29th Aug/2nd Sep (starting with the cheapest)

BLR-LAX - EK, then BA and then QR
BLR-PRG - EK , BA, AF, LH (EK is exactly half the fare of BA, the nearest comp.)
BLR-MAD - QR, 9W, EK
BLR-JFK - 9W, EK, LH
BLR-SYD - TG, SQ, EK
BLR-IAH - QR, BA, EK
BLR-SFO - EK, 9W, BA
BLR-LHR - EK, IT, AI
BLR-CDG - BA, EK, AF

All searches done via amadeus.net. I have excluded itineraries with multiple airline.

EK is the cheapest in 4 and is not the cheapest in 5 sectors. So seems like on an average, EK can be considered one of the cheaper airlines ex-BLR. But there are often cheaper competitors (like SU to refer to this thread), including "name brands" like BA, AF etc. (though rarely LH/ SQ).

I wonder if SU makes any money at the fares they're offering?

EK has such a big network out of India, so many connecting options as well as such a big overall network that they "dump" in a very optimized way that would not show up on normal searches. Take the BLR example, 50% of BA is huge. With BOM they tend to dump for new markets or not discount when there is O&D demand and demand to routes that carry a premium (say BOM-GRU at peak times). By allowing EK to always have excess capacity, they can play both the el cheapo and premium plays at the same time. Discount to keep out competitors and charge premiums to those that become your loyal travelers.
