"It's a pleasant surprise for all of us. You must realise that Delhi and Mumbai handle more traffic than Singapore and Dubai because we have a huge domestic market," said Praful Patel, Civil Aviation Minister.
Wow, did he really say that? BOM and DEL won’t catch up to DBX or SIN for years .
It's obviously great to hear that our skies are safe, but a big reason for this is due to the relative lack of traffic. As much as we like talking about BOM-DEL being busy and traffic growing at 30%, our country hardly has any air traffic. _________________ eP007 |

What sort of traffic is he talking about? Is it just aircraft movement? Anyone have figures? Dubai and Singapore have a lot of widebody operations so it may be possible that BOM/DEL have greater aircraft movement. |

Good point, I didn’t think of that.
According to:
http://www.changiairport.com/changi/en/about_us/fact_sheets/air_traffic_statistics/2006/index.html
In Singapore, during December 2006
Passengers handled = 3.4 million (35 for the whole year)
Aircraft movements = 19,000 (214,000 for the whole year)
According to the CAPA report
In Delhi for November 2006,
Pax = 1.68 million
A/c movements = 17,283 (For October)
In Bombay (also for November 2006)
Pax = 1.77 million
Movements = 18,292
So maybe in terms of aircraft movements, the gap is smaller (or Indian airports have overtaken it) _________________ eP007 |

OK, In that case i am impressed by our ATC's. I am pretty sure that our navigational equipments are not as upto date as Singapore or Dubai's. Inspite of that our ATC's have done a commendable job.
By the way does this report also takes into account military movements. As there are quite a few of them in Delhi and not as much in Bombay.
Cheers

Oh yes, managing hell number of flights with just one rwy operational at a time at BOM is definately difficult. but yeah they do a lot of nonsense at times also. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

Very commendable indeed, especially since most or all of their PCs do not even have software as advanced as Pentium 1 , i had seen a report about a year ago on this.
