Few minor changes by LX, MS, WY

1)LX:-

LX will increase its operations from 5 weekly to 6 weekly in December. BOM will go back to daily from Summer '10.

2) WY:-

Oman air changed its flight numbers throughout India ranging from 201-299. Also Oman Air has reduced flights on MCT - BLR route from daily to 4 weekly.

3) MS:-

According to airlineroute.blogspot.com, MS will be splitting CAI-BOM-KUL and will go separately non stop to BOM and KUL. CAI - BOM maybe operated with the B737-800.

So BOM - KUL will have MH only.

And these will be on the new 333s.

Previously Oman used to use 8xx flight numbers. As for BLR, I think it boils down to the lack of O&D between BLR and MCT.

A 737 is definitely a downgrade in capacity, but a few of them are brand new and feature the updated product. Would still be uncomfortable on a 7 hour flight, though!

W.r.t to Oman Air they are competing directly with IC's 3 weekly MCT-BLR-HYD which has been around in a while.

As far as Egypt air goes it may not be a dip in capacity. You have to realise that this flight was CAI - BOM - KUL on an A330 and as a classic case we can assume 50% seats were sold for CAI - BOM and 50% for CAI - KUL. So switching from a 1/2 A330 to a B738 ... we need to do some math here.

How do these IC hopping flights dent the market shares of airlines offering direct flights? Even TG has reduced it's capacity to MAA, possibly because of the IC flight: HYD-BLR-MAA-BKK? And add KU pulling out of AMD due to IC's KWI-AMD-HYD flight.

Quite True.

Were they losing out to Malaysian on the route?

There is no HYD-BLR-MAA-BKK as of now ... it was there once upon a time. Even IC's MAA - BKK stopped some time back. But IC's flights do make sense as they target two markets. As we know O&D is split between 2 carriers, IC cannot do a non stop to BLR alone. Besides HYD, BLR are not hubs for IC to get connecting flights.

Same thing for MS. Their main intention is to serve CAI - BOM and CAI - KUL, nothing in particular to do with BOM - KUL route per se. Although they did sell very cheap tickets on that route. Earlier there might not have been the traffic to justify this route, and now there maybe.

However it is good to see IC standing firm.

Also, in addition to the above changes

Kenya Airways is reducing BOM - NBO from summer 09 from daily to 5 weekly.
