have u cross checked that ?
on many routes AIX aircrafts are used but they still carry the AI code
like pnq - dxb was an AI flight till october but had started using AIX a/c well before that
similar is the case on MAA - KUL flights an AI flight but operated by an AIX a/c |

Does PNQ have that much of traffic to warrant a direct flight or is it mainly serving BOM-PNQ sector??
Cheers

well there is enough load to fill a B737 and also its a LCC so it can make a mark
i think to generate the maximum revenue out of it there should be some code share tacts involved currently PNQ is connected to DXB and SIN only 2 cities no connections beyond
whereas if u consider the case of Nagpur
NAG - BKK by IC serves only BKK but
NAG - SHJ by G9 gives connections to all the gulf cities around and thats
why it is very very successful
and with the introduction of NAG - DOH by QR Nagpur can be connected to the United states with one stop only
The point i wish to make is PNQ needs at least one foreign carrier
now when UL starts PNQ - CMB all these flights will go in drain |

Is SQ interested in this route at all (PNQ-SIN)? They have a pretty good India network, so IMO cities like PNQ sound like they should be on the radar.
Hold on, just checked the latest bilaterals - Airlines from Singapore have no access to PNQ. So AI should have a free run on this sector. |

That's what I was wondering!!!
How long is BOM-PNQ? Airtime should be less them few minutes. Would it even go to cruising altitude? |

If SQ is allowed on this route it wud be a huge relief to all the techies flying in from the west coast , S.E. Asia n down under who can avoid a cab ride from BOM to Pune after almost 15-20 hrs in flight!!
But to handle widebodies, esp with passengers from the US travelling with the two-piece concept, PNQ will have to be upgraded big time!! |

Well - not much change needed really - look at BLR - managing fine with 4/5 widebodies every night, and barely a single quarter sized belt at arrivals
Interesting thought - AI code shares with SQ on the SQ1/2 and SQ15/16 services to SFO, so it would be great if they could offer a through check-in and service from PNQ to SFO via SQ@SIN. |

well you should take a look at the airport now ... pretty much better than what it was 2 yrs ago . and also the runway at pune is getting upgraded to handle the A330 / B777 |

EXCELLENT news. More such flights will lead to a decluttering of Mumbai air traffic. |

I agree.
In fact, if Pune airport can be expanded to handle more flights, some amount of traffic from/to BOM can be diverted here. PNQ and BOM airports can in fact complement each other very well, if efficient road transport can be provided between these two airports.
Volvo buses, AC/non-AC taxis can easily provide a connection between the two airports. The two airports will serve the entire Mumbai-Pune megapolis area pretty well.

IC does these legs on TUE and SAT with a halt in HYD.
I was speaking to an IC official in PNQ the other day, he was worried that his flights to SIN would be discontinued as there was a rumour that AI would fly the same sector. Now that AIX have announced their schedule, wonder why they're competing on tuesdays. Load factor ?? I don't think the loads that good ex-PNQ..

loads are not that good true
my cousin migrated to singapore from pune in sept 2006 and when i went to the airport to drop him only 10 international pax boarded that flight and rest were all going to HYD
see starting international operations is good but had they allowed a foreign carrier into pune things would be different People can go through the hub
For instance had SQ started flights to sin or EK to DXB people can connect to all over the world unlike know which is catering DXB and SIN only |

Reposting the new AIX schedule:
Pune gets more attention!
Two flights between Pune and Singapore and three from Pune to Dubai.
IA top brass is not too happy with this schedule.

Yes we read that ...
IC should have really hiked their standards .. Other than Alcohol and some portions of food IC is no better than any LCC |

Yup, even I believe that IC will use its Pune slots 9rare commodity!!) for some more pure domestic sectors, one being the much awaited DEL-PNQ-GOI-COK-DEL and vice-versa flight.
But then again, many have been waiting for the night PNQ-CCU flight too, as well.
In any case the PNQ-HYD-SIN flight was and is a pain for other domestic passengers as it messes up the peak evening flow at PNQ.
Any ideas when AI/IX will start offering through fares PNQ-North America on this PNQ-SIN flight? |

PNQ domestic flights late at night in conflict with the late-night IC international flight, causing chaos in the small little terminal we have:-
PNQ-DEL on 9W and S2
DEL-PNQ on 9W, S2, G8 and IT
BLR-PNQ on 9W
PNQ-MAA on G8
An ATR on DN to ???
Add evening delayed flights as well as non-sked movements, and you see a situation.
(Please be aware, we have one small little check-in area, which then serves as a portable Immigration-cum-Customs area. The baggage reclaim area is common, so the domestic baggage then gets dumped in the outside shed. And the crowds, don't even ask.) |

As I remember from my last visit to the PNQ departure terminal, they had a separate immigration counter (or two) that was apart from the airline check-in counters. These were next to the customs counter just before entering the security check area. They were also under the process of expanding the airport area, making more space for passengers to be seated.
Also, how many aircraft bays are available at the PNQ airport? At any given point of time, I have never seen more than 2 aircrafts parked at the apron in PNQ.
