BIAL will be functional from April 2008. All commercial flights are expected to move to the new airport. Do you guys feel that the current airport should be retained for domestic and regional flights?

PS: The agreement between the govt. and BIAL does not permit any other commercial airport within 150 kms of BIAL.

I feel that the govt. must honor it's agreement and cease all commercial operations from HAL. BIAL cannot be made to suffer for the incompetency of the state govt. in failing to develop proper connections to the new airport.

I feel regional flights should be allowed at first, and then more and more flights allowed to operate at HAL,

.... Obviously ... all this must be done with BIALs consent. The agreement between BIAL and the government cannot and must not be unilaterally broken. The 2 sides should get together and work out a solution.

I think it would make sense to retain both airports, maybe restricting HAL to only domestic flights. That being said, commercial ops/control/ profits should be handed over to BIAL, so they can weather potential losses on BIAL with potential profits via HAL.

I shall go for closure on HAL. Having said that there is a option of HAL being made active for short haul flights. BUT, BIAL will not allow it as they got the deal done after some hard bargaining. would prefer to wait and watch whats going to happen.

PS; On a personal note, closing the HAL shall definitely reduce the traffic on airport road SERIOUSLY Laughing

I believe that international and domestic flights should operate from different terminals but under the umbrella of the BIAL. In my opinion, this would allow for more efficient handling and would also be convenient for passengers with onward connections going either way.

HAL should really just go back to being an IAF base.

My two paisas.

Cheers,

Kamlesh
