Mahindra to built aircraft
Mumbai, Feb 9 (IANS) India's leading utility vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd signed an agreement here Friday for the design and development of a new aircraft with the state-owned National Aerospace Laboratories and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.
The multiple cargo and passenger aircraft is expected to be developed over a period of 36 months and will have a capacity of carrying at least five passengers, a Mahindra & Mahindra statement here said.
'The design and development of the aircraft will be done by Mahindra Systems and Technologies engineering wing-Plexion Technologies,' it said.
The aircraft will have specifications that would meet both Indian and international standards, the statement said.
The company however, did not give any financial details of the deal.

Reminds me of a cousin of mine who owns a couple of garages, when Tata Indica came out ... would discourage from buying it cause the were made from (desi) truck parts/guys.

Looks like they are competing with the Eclipse 500 which has been a sell out success in the UVLJ category. (I'm assuming its a jet and not a prop). |

maybe they will use it as its very own private jet aircrafts and perhaps sell or pitch the idea to its business associates.

It was some BLR based entity. It made some noises, but nothing concrete came out. _________________ [url=http://openflights.org/user/aseemsjohri]

I think this could have something to do with the rap that some research agencies like NAL and DRDO got from the Govt to concentrate on R&D and not get into the nitty-gritty of manufacture.
I think they will transfer their designs to a private player who woul build and market the NAL designs in retunr for license fees and a profit sharing arrangement. ISRO did this with the Vikas liquid rocket engines which are being built by Godrej MTAR Pvt Ltd.
So we might just see the Saras 14/21 seater being made by M&M! _________________ http://www.cougar-rides.com

Overall this is good for the industry, there absolutely has to be private and public corporations in both the civilian AND military spheres. R&D, production, design everything- we can’t leave everything up to NAL, ISRO and HAL. _________________ eP007 |

The best part is that they're a private company and they haven't started off with a 70-80 seater aircraft but just a teeny-weeny 5 seater aircraft _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld
