just read the ASA updated between India and italy and it stated that Alitalia has asked rts to fly to ccu
just wanted to ask with Lufthansa , British Airways , Emirates and Gulf Air does CCU enough traffic to ask in another airline |

where did you read this.I had verbally heard that AZ was in talks with the Indian Govt. to allow it to launch CCU services.In the recent bilaterals CCU was added as an additional point of call.
When they start flying to Kolkata it will be great news.As far as traffic is concerned, just ask the airlines you have mentioned.Most of their flights ex CCU are overbooked.You happen to miss the Maharaj.AI flies 3 times a week on the CCU-LHR-CCU route.This service is also performing way beyond AI's initial expectations.
There is no reason why AZ or another carrier may not do well.With CCU's thriving leather export industry, this flight will be popular amongst the leather trade specially as it will cut down flying hours between Kolkata and Spain apart from providing a direct link to Italy another major leather goods industry.
