|

Hi guys:
I just wanted to ask if anyone else has ever used their GPS receivers while inflight on a commercial flight? I have been using mine on my last two flights from PHL -ORD and then from ORD - SFO. Ofcourse, both times i asked permission from the captain who allowed me to use them throughout the flight.
Its pretty cool on flights where there in no moving map, it gives you great accuracy and whats the best is that you can upoad it to google earth and see the exact co-ordinates of where you have been flying!
Look out for my maps, i will upload them here , once im back in india.
regards

This has been discussed a couple of time on A.net - and the opinion was that it's use on board flights may not be strictly legal. That being said if you have the captain's permission - I don't see any issues! |

Well technically, once i used it inflight, it was perfectly ok, even the cabin crew saw it and saw me using it, but they didnt really care. Infact, i expected the passengers around me to also cause a rukus, but they also were cool with it.
So it worked our rather well, i have found a good way to ask the captain, while talking into the plane, i hand over a little note asking if i can use the receiver and take pictures of the flight deck after landing along with my flight log. |

If the GPS use is illegal, even the Commander has no authority to grant permission. However if its use is legal there is no question.

I have used one before, well I was flying with a friend of mine and he had one.
Dunno about legal, but it's safe (unless you have one that’s a decade old) _________________ eP007 |
