NAGPUR - MUMBAI
Airline: 9W
Acft: 737-800
Flight 9W116
Regn: VT-JNA
Class: Business

Flight delayed by an hour. Was not kept informed despite providing my cell number etc: Jet normally does these sort of things even if we are traveling economy. Guess in Nagpur all systems go out of the window.

At check-in, the guy at the counter apologized for the delay and handed me an invite to the “Lounge”. “Nagpur has a lounge now?” was my first thought: alas it was just the stinky airport restaurant! Why even bother!

Nagpur used to have a spacious departure area which was closed off for some reason and passengers leaving on 4 flights were squeezed into the small area on the ground floor.

Onboard: First shock: a Jet aircraft in poor shape. JNA is clearly in poor condition. Business class had only 24 seats instead of 28: remember the noise they made about removing one row from Business and Economy? Didn’t get to check the economy space on this one. Business class was the usual 38/40” types. Seats even in J-class showed their age, with broken edges, dirty sidewalls etc. Seriously: whats going on at Jet?

Service was top notch: 3 cabin attendants for 24 pax! Was escorted to my seat while another attendant bought me a welcome drink and a menu card. The third attendant came around with the cold towels. Nice.

For a while I thought I was the only passenger that day in J. but soon the cabin filled up: flight was full in Y and just one seat open in J! I was in 3F, in 1B was a senior female politician from Maharashtra. The rest of the J cabin resembled a geriatric ward as well. I was the certainly the youngest there!

2 of the 3 cabin crew started taking meal orders even as the aircraft was taxiing and only rushed to their seats as the aircraft begain its take off roll: stupid babes! As soon as the lights came on the service began. The FA’s came around with another round of drinks and took our meal orders even as the other FA’s were serving the front section of the cabin.

Meal options:
Salad.
Fruits from basket.
Bread Selection.
Roasted papad.

Entrée:
Spit roasted Chicken
OR

Methi Murg Kali Mirch

OR

Methi Paneer Kali Mirch

Dessert:
Chocolate Excess Cake

OR

Dodha with Rabdi

I chose Methi Murg and overall it was a decent meal. The FA’s came around with a selection of hot breads/rotis/parathas and fruits. We Indians certainly love our food, ‘cos the whole cabin was busy hogging away while the FA’s were busy serving! Quantity was certainly an issue though with TINY portions of everything. But everything was of excellent quality.

Overall:
Aircraft : 3/10 : Flew well alright. No shakes or rattles. But the condition of the cabin was appalling. I have never seen a cabin in this shabby condition before. Even the J-cabin of IC’s A300’s are in better condition!

Service: 8/10: Top notch. Not the KF style “Look I am such a hot babe.” kind of service. More to the point and professional. But on the down side: they seemed terribly bored. Don’t blame them! Nagpur flights can be boring! Not like Bangalore flights with celebs flitting between the cities for brunch and shopping! Cabin crew had the new uniform: trousers and coats. Didn’t like the new uniform one bit and told the crew this in so many words! The crew however said that these uniforms were much more comfortable. Well whatever!

Overall: 7/10.

Anyone who travels on Business Class on a route like BOM-BLR cant help but compare that experience to a flight on the same class on a route of similar length like BOM-NAG. Why this inconsistency?

Great service. But not quite worth the 12 grand we put down for the seat, Even if someone else is paying for it!! Jet/IC economy is perfectly value for money!

yes 9W112 in the morning is a -800 while 116 in the evening is usually a -400. This change I guess was just for the Holiday season.

9W's -400's arent too bad in Business. I was on a -400 in business class 4 months back, early morning flight with a 4 digit number (dunno why). Aircraft was in FANTASTIC condition. I think Jet abuses their 737-800's: thier -700's and -400s are in ok condition.
