AF are in a JV with DL and 9W and 9W will ultimately fly the 77W to CDG everyday so they can take care of the F traffic to CDG and AF can ferry it across the pond.
That is the beauty of having a JV. it will definitely be cheaper for 9W to fly an F cabin on the route when compared to AF. |

I was really scared that AF would stop flying to BOM. Nice to see that AF & 9W can make two flights with similar timings work. My guess is they need to keep both as they do not have a real JV in place (metal neutral and price coordination). Once they get a true legal JV in place, I think there will only be one flight a day CDG-BOM.
Btw any rumors on what EY feels about 9W/AF/DL/VS partnership? EY is usually one of the cheapest options on the NYC-BOM route (I mean like really cheap). My guess is that with US origination pax, the need for FF miles pushes people to STAR or to the new DL/9W partnership? |

I feel both 9W and AF would stay on the route as 9W will offer an F cabin and AF a Y+ cabin. As AF hubs at CDG, there is no reason why both flights cant feed into and out of CDG.
From what i hear, 9W wanted funding from EY. EY like most gulf carriers is bleeding. They are re-looking at all their partner airlines and forcing them to atleast break even. Alitalia and Air Berlin are both to cut routes, fleets and jobs. Virgin Australia is struggling too.
Yes, 9W is making money but EY on its own is one big sinkhole. When the likes of EK are struggling, you know QR and EY are rogered and in the red.
( As much as they say they aren't )
EY refused to pump in more money and 9W just went ahead to work with AF-KLM-DL and VS. For its stake in 9W, EY gets feed from India via 9W.
The US based pax who is aligned to an alliance definitely likes to fly an airline where he gets his miles. Hence the 9W-DL-AF-KLM-VS partnership is going to be a definite winner. |
