A United Boeing 777-200, registration N78002 performing flight UA-49 from Mumbai (India) to Newark,NJ (USA), had just reached cruise level FL330 when the crew received indication of two generators being offline. The crew decided to return to Mumbai, dumped fuel and landed safely back in Mumbai about 2 hours after departure.

The flight was postponed to the next day, a replacement Boeing 777-200 registration N37018 reached Newark as flight UA-49D with a delay of 24 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Mumbai.

A passenger reported the crew announced a double generator failure after reaching cruise altitude. The aircraft dumped fuel for about one hour and returned to Mumbai.
