How IndiGo has benefited the most from 20% growth in Indian air traffic
When yesterday I wrote about IndiGo losing market share for three consecutive months (Fourth month of record load factors for Spicejet as passenger numbers continue to grow), there were questions which came at me on Why and How can this happen? Market share and load factors are just one of many parameters which denote success of an airline and the airline with best market share and highest load factors can also be loss making!
IndiGo, infact has had one of the best years so far as it carried 60.46 lakh passengers more previous year till August, which is a growth of 45% and has been the biggest beneficiary of the 20% YoY growth. _________________ www.networkthoughts.com |

A very well-written article, Sir. 45% growth is indeed impressive. I find your analysis beautifully structured, to cater to people like me, who are not well-versed with aviation management intricacies.
Beautiful use of language as well, as in the following, for example:

This statement amply emphasises that while the pie may expand in size, the total percentages will always add up to 100, and in this, a market share could decrease due to a few parameters.
The `New players' section was also extremely informative: with a concise analysis of other airlines, and their strategies. The last section has some rather interesting points about the infrastructure, which needs to be on track, for a success story in aviation.
And yes, a typically Ameya-sque pun on NDE, with SpiceJet's story!
Thank you for a wonderful analysis, once again. When you promised a write-up on this on the WA group, I had been eagerly waiting for this.
Cheers, Sumantra. |
