The Flight Data Recorder of Coast Guard aircraft Dornier CG 791 that went missing on June 8 was recovered from the seabed at a depth of about 950 metres off the coast of Port Nova in Chidambaram by Reliance Multipurpose Support Vehicle Olympic Carrier.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, IG and Commander of Coast Guard (Region East) S. P. Sharma said the recovery was made possible after a navy submarine involved in the search operation picked up SONAR signals from the FDR.
“The FDR was found in the same area where search operations began in June after the aircraft went missing.”
The cockpit recorder had also been recovered, Mr. Sharma said, adding that the FDR and the other debris recovered were still onboard the Reliance vehicle. “We have not taken steps to get it to the shore immediately since the search for the crew is still on,” he said.
Asked if the debris was recovered on the scheduled course of the aircraft or if there was a deviation, Mr. Sharma said the flight had not deviated. On the possibility of sabotage behind the crash, he said there was no evidence at present to support such a claim. The IG said he had personally informed the families of the crew, who, he said, were composed.

Comment: It is no fun to detect and salvage something from that great depth. It shows desi under water tech. has come to age! _________________ Sabya99 |
