Hello there fellow avgeeks…!!!

This is my fourth trip report. As always I am gonna to concentrate much on my home airport Mangalore.

(I wont be apologizing for poor quality pics anymore. I am sure everyone reading my TR are adjusted to poor quality pics Razz)

This is as usual trip to Dubai but with a bit of extra routing. I could have easily taken a direct flight from mangalore to dubai with Air India Express or Jet airways but I dint want to since 9w timing was a bit odd and AIX was a LCC. So the routing was done as IXE-BOM-DXB.
Jet airways gave me pretty decent pricing of 26K round trip. It was a new experience for me to try one airline on both domestic and international sector. So after booking I pre-assigned my seats. Sad thing was that I couldn't assign seats for IXE-BOM sector the only way to do it was by doing a web check in 24 hrs prior to departure.

The next thing to worry was about the transfer in BOM airport. I have never traveled on an international sector via BOM. The main thing to worry was about the transfer of my luggage.

24th march 2015
Jet airways
Mangalore to Mumbai
9W 0436
Boeing 737-800
ETD: 9:05 ATD: 9:05
ETA: 10:40 ATA: 10:25
Seat: 12A

I did a web check in on 23rd just to confirm my window seat as I have usually heard that this sector flys full.

I arrived at mangalore airport at around 8.00 for the 9:05 departure. It was like a totally packed. Mangalore airport and packed..???? doesn't go well. But it was. There was a 8.55 departure to dubai and 10.05 departure to abudhabi. It took me almost 20 mins to get the boarding pass.

Thanks to the check in agent bobby my bags were checked all the way thru all the way till dubai. No worry's of baggage collection. Security was a bit lengthy considering the number of departures.
At around 8.30 I was airside.

The flight will depart from gate 4 which is equipped with aero bridge. Boarding commenced at around 8.50.

The flight was full in economy premiere was just 2 pax. After leveling off the crew sprung in action. My itinerary stated its breakfast but it turned out to be a snack. The choice was either veg which had a paneer kathi roll or a chicken Panini. I went for the chicken.

The Panini was less of chicken and more of capsicum and onion. But it was flavorful and a perfect balance of spices. The moment u open the foil a strong wind of spices just blew on. I was in food coma. Razz

This was served with a piece of chocolate cake which was truly delicious. Then the new signature 9W tamarind candy along with a bottle of water. Then the usual rounds of tea/coffee. The service was pretty good. Every request was acknowledged with a smile.

The crew were very cheerful and good in service. I did mention it to them and was thanked with a big smile. Rest of the flight was uneventful. We did land before time.

After landing I made my way towards the international transfer desk. The next transfer was scheduled at 11.10 . after a second security screening of my backpack I was good to board the bus.

We waited till the bus was full and started off towards International T2.

I wont be posting much of pics as now almost everyone over here has experienced the new T2 which is not new anymore. after a quick reconfirmation about my baggage with the 9W staff I made my towards security.

Security was a breeze. It dint take much of time for the nice CISF personal to stamp me clear to go. I proceeded towards immigration.

The officer was a pretty nice fellow. Chatted a bit inquired why I am travelling via Mumbai and did have laugh for the reason. Soon I was stamped out of india.

Since I had over 3 hours of time I had prebooked the pranaam lounge. It’s a new one of a kind service in india which gives a taste of first and priority class services to people travelling in economy. They have a services from meet and greet to entire transfer and lounge. I had reserved myself the lounge service for two hours. Right after the end of the duty free area there's pranaam lounge adjacent to clipper lounge. the lounge was pretty much deserted. Actually I was the only one in here. Its like my own private lounge. Razz

The lounge looks elegant and royal feeling. Much better than the plaza premium for sure. But the only draw back was that there was no seating area which would give a bit of runway action and the seating was kind of limited.

One thing that I noticed in the lounge was they were airing free DD dish channel. I mean a lounge in GVK airport without a satellite tv connection. Whats the use of having a 60” Samsung LED. The Pranaam lounge had a shared buffet area with clipper lounge.

I was served food to my table in the lounge. Anything I asked was served with a smile. A special mention to Mr Kiran who was the lounge associate. He was a very helpful and courteous.

24th march 2015
Jet Airways
Mumbai to Dubai
9W 0538
Boeing 737-800
ETD: 15:40 ATD: 15:45
ETA: 17:35 ATA: 17:20

After a bit of relaxing in the lounge. I made my way towards Gate 69B. My flight was parked next to a EK 777. It looked like a small baby. This was a packed flight.

After boarding was complete captain rohit Shetty(not to be confused with Golmaal Razz) and first officer Feroz contractor announced a delay of 10 minutes since one of the runway was closed.

I could see oman air pushing back. About 5 minutes of delay we pushed back. We stood in line behind oman air for takeoff. Takeoff was pretty smooth.

The captain was a fun loving guy, while on ground he kept updating about the cricket scores.
No matter how what u just cannot ignore AI. Just Luv dis Jumbo. Razz

After leveling off drinks service started. I asked for a glass of 7up which was served with a packet of corn chips. It was tasty btw. And then all of a sudden my PTV stopped responding. I said the FA about this and she asked 10 minutes. I just kept quiet.

After the drinks service was over my PTV started rebooting. The same FA came back to be just to inform that the PTV will be fine in no time. She came back just to inform me. Now that customer service. Sorry I couldn't get her name.

Lunch(can be said a snack) service started with a option of chicken curry or paneer butter masala both served with parathas. The tray was kinda very small.

There was a salad consisting of boiled green gram and cucumber slices along with a imli chutney.
There was a desert which I couldn't identify (wish sumantra sir was there m sure you could have easily got it Razz).

The chicken curry was very tasty. The spice balance was just perfect but only a bit few chicken pieces. Does jet airways have a onboard chef on this sector..? Razz those Parathas were very soft as if they were prepared just before serving us.

After the trays were cleared there was a usual run of tea or coffee. Rest of the flight was smooth. It was a clear weather and no turbulence I guess as I slept of. I woke up in time for landing. Landing was smooth. But as always it was a long way towards the parking bay.

I dint forget to thank the FA who was taking care of my section. When exiting the aircraft I said the FA “that was a very nice service and special thanks to you for resetting the PTV” and her reply was “ thank you this is the first compliment I got on this sector”. We exchanged a small smile.

We had parked next to a shaheen.

Immigration was a bit of time since there was two flights at the same time. Baggage took a bit long of time. This jet flight was a very nice one. On both domestic and international sector I got the same level of service. Thank you jet airways for making my trip a memorable and nice one.

That was quick, Pradeep: thank you for the very prompt and nice TR!
It is raining Bajpe TRs, and do we not love it? Abhijeeth: where are you?

Whew: I have never got used to the ugly stares I get when I hold my nose close to a food packet, before opening it, or right next to a slice of lime, while squeezing it Smile
Jet's packing of the Panini sandwich looks nice. Jet usually excellent with desserts. You got an air-side transfer at BOM: wow!
This would be the first report on this forum on the Pranaam lounge as well. It looks quite decent, but I must admit: you are a light eater Smile
You caught two AI B744s in action, one with the boarding stares + aerobridge. If given a choice, no guesses as to what most of us would have preferred!
Yes, jet's food looks more like a snack, than a lunch.
It is nice that you gto a nice parAnThA: one of my friends had got luckier, on an AI flight (in Business class), he was served chapAtIs/phulkAs!
I always look at these Jet Airways IFE screens with sadness. At one point in time, Jet were the only airline in the Indian skies with AVOD on a narrow-body. Kingfisher only had liveTV on some planes (with a bump on top: remember the A321s?), and the Thales i3000 AI's narrow-bodies implies no AVOD. and Jet took them out, on domestic legs. Their newer planes do not have IFE. This is really sad!
I am glad that Jet's service was nice, and the frank reply to your complement was quite interesting to hear!
Keep it coming, Sir!
Cheers, Sumantra.

Thank you sumantra sir for your kind reply
Usually when i get the food packet i just pretend i am the only one there. Razz
Mangalore has a new air catering company by name CAFS. They are doing pretty good as of now.
Yea sir i am always on the bit of a lite side. i was kinda stuffed that day or else you would have been confused whether its my table or the buffet...!! Very Happy Razz
If given a choice i would have left my jet and hoped on the AI 747..!!!! Its a dream which i guess would neva be fulfilled...!!!! Confused

Thanks Pradeep for posting the detailed trip report and good to read your alternate views on Mangalore airport. When I was waiting at Mangalore airport for boarding I saw quite a few ATR’s as well, and seems like they all fly in from Bangalore and other nearby cities.

The food is exactly the same that I got which was not great, but your cake looks better than the crappy muffing that I got.

The pranam lounge in Bombay is a good concept thanks for sharing that information.

The Ohman Haiyr (Oman Air) livery is quite good.

The food on the Dubai leg looks quite good, except that the curry looked a bit greasy.

Thanks.

Thank you sir.
Even i agree the skymart should be thrown away.
Pranaam lounge usually charges INR2000 for 2 hours but due to a promotional scheme i got it at INR1400.

Thank you sir. Both the ATR's were destined for bangalore. 1 by 9W and other by SG.
Yes sir the food is almost the sa,e. But the panini did taste good with less of a filling. Cake was really tasty. Rich in chocolate.
The chicken curry was a bit greasy but it did compliment the paratas perfectly.

Hey thanks for another great TR!

I believe 9W allows pre selection of seats only on international flights and metro to metro domestic flights.

Great pics from the terminal! Why can't Jet get over those Panini already ughh
But well, if it was good...then its nice to know Smile

Oh lucky you - your transfer bus took you within the airport boundaries! I went on to the streets of Mumbai Sad
Windows don't look clean, were the interiors equally shabby?

Pranaam service looks good! Do you have to pre-book it or can you pay while entering as well?

DXB flight looks very good too.

Great read, thanks for sharing!

Regards
Jish
