Very long announcement time for a flight to start in 10 months. Still better than AI announcing a flight to be started in 2 to 4 weeks. May now they will turn east and look at HYD or CCU. Even MAA and BKK were rumoured to be converted to jump 340. |

They are prepping for the 2015 "season" in FL.
Yes, Madras will be among the next "Jump" destinations. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

Lovely - I know my family in Tampa will be quite happy! I'm worried about the timings though - it won't connect to the India flight bank both ways. I understand lack of slots at FRA in the peak morning rush hours, but with these timings, this flight will end up catering to the O&D demand and to European transit pax. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

This is the typical planning cycle by most major airlines in the world - be it LH, or the MEB3 or the big Asian carriers. It's only our domestic carriers that like to keep things hanging until the last minute! _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Excellent explanation.
http://www.ch-aviation.com/portal/news/32960-lufthansas-jump-names-tampa-fl-as-first-destination
Lufthansa's Jump names Tampa FL as first destination
Lufthansa will commence a 5x weekly Frankfurt Int'l to Tampa Int'l service beginning September 29, 2015 - the first such service for its planned new mainline "Jump" initiative.
Unlike its tentatively named "WorldWings" longhaul budget carrier which will operate as a separate, distinct entity, Jump will operate under the Lufthansa brand albeit using more densely configured A340-300 aircraft. The brand is aimed at allowing Lufthansa to recapture leisure marketshare lost to the likes of Emirates, Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, and Etihad Airways.
Other initial destinations being considered include Mahé in the Seychelles, and Chennai in India.
Jump will initially deploy three refitted A340s featuring 18 Business Class seats, 19 Premium Economy seats and 261 Economy seats. Based out of Frankfurt, Jump's fleet will grow to include 14 of the eighteen A340-300s in Lufthansa’s fleet over time.
In a bid to keep its cost overheads as low as possible and in the wake of recent devastating pilot strikes, Lufthansa is reportedly considering outsourcing its Jump A340 operations to PrivatAir. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

CityLine pilots to operate Lufthansa's A340 'Jump' fleet
Lufthansa CityLine pilots are slated to operate a fleet of leisure-oriented A340-300s for parent Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt Int'l) after management reached an agreement with its Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) pilot union.
According to airliners.de, 160 flight crew have been enlisted to operate the jets as part of the German carrier's "Jump" project. The A340s will be transferred to CityLine's Air Operators Certificate (AOC) before being leased back to Lufthansa on a wet-lease basis. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.
