Welcome to Part 3 of my Round the World Trip Report. And yes, this is the final part Smile. This will cover the following flights:

Courtesy: Great Circle Mapper

I am in Calcutta. The city continues to bemuse me every time I visit. It attains a new low as compared to my previous visit. One tends to believe that the goon politicians of all colours are holding the citizens of this otherwise great city a hostage. Readers must be thinking that my Calcutta bashing is about to start (as I did in my previous TRs) Very Happy I will prove you wrong this time.

Helpless police is getting ready to protect the US consulate against a mob who are protesting the arrest of an Indian diplomat in the US

Christmas is around the corner, packaged Jesus in all shapes and sizes

A business trip to Delhi was planned while I was in Canada. A short day trip, though a day will be lost in travelling from my carefully planned 2 week vacation, I was excited at the opportunity to travel within India and more importantly getting a chance to look at the new CCU terminal up close. I had no say on the carrier selection but when it arrived, I found it to be Indigo both ways. I wished I had Go Air (haven’t flown them yet) in one of the sectors but I guess the corporate house who was inviting me has a contract with Indigo.

Date: December 21, 2013
CCU- DEL
Airline: Indigo
Flight#: 6E 228
Equip: A320
Seat: 4C
Departs: 0850
Arrives: 1055

Though this was not the peak fog season, I arrive at T2 on a foggy morning

I can expect some delays but there is no panic, there is no connecting flight that I might miss today. Walking around the new terminal, I got a sense that corresponds to the views of other seasoned travelers who visited new CCU and praised. Years back when MAA & CCU were chosen to be the “guinea pig” for AAI sponsored Terminal upgrade, like most others I was skeptical about the final product. But today I am pleasantly surprised by the modern, super spacious, user friendly T2. As Sabya99 mentioned, this terminal is just good enough for another century of passenger transportation out of CCU Smile When Bengal’s economic scene was looking upbeat for a short while, the previous chief Minister demanded that Praful Patel should approve another airport in the vicinity of Calcutta simply because CCU T2 will not be sufficient to accommodate all the growth! Thank god good sense prevailed and the request was turned down. I said I will refrain from Bengal bashing but old habits die hard Very Happy

Departures for the day

6E Check in counters

An exotic airline to a unique destination. I was standing near the check in area for sometime to guess the load, I should say it was good for an A319

Go Air to Port Blair

Amongst all new signs, a piece from old CCU! The fonts and colour schemes remind the drab signs that old CCU used to have

If there is one airline in India that is doing most of the things right that is Indigo. From the days when 100 A320 order surprised the buffs and subsequent trick of dressing up the balance sheet by “sell and lease back” deals, Indigo has learned how to keep its nose above the murky waters of Indian civil aviation. In CCU, they are the number one in terms of frequencies to most of the destinations. Their aircrafts arrive and depart flawlessly and their people on the ground or up in the air provide professional service. I found that happening in my two flights today.

Due to fog our flight got delayed by almost 90 minutes but the moment the visibility improved, flights took off in quick succession. Fog prone airports have learned over the years how to shorten the delay.

6E FAs wore a hat similar to what QR girls wear but soon after they boarded the plane, those hats were no more visible. With the customary announcement about the flying time and flight path etc, there was information about the names of all crews, languages spoken and from which city they were. FAs in this flight were from CCU, Darjeeling and N/E states. Soon after the seat belt signs were off, the FAs sprung into action. I noticed the boarding pass has 3 sections, middle section being the coupon for pre-ordered food etc. Smart idea. One more thing I noticed. When the Pilots(s) were using the restroom, one of the FA was blocking the aisle with the cart. I guess it is done as a safety precaution to prevent any hijacking attempt. Again, a smart thinking. Not long after a Pilot went back to the cockpit after using the restroom, I got up from my seat and walked towards the toilet. There I see this poster on the cockpit door.

After reading it couple of times, I quickly took a picture. The alert FA came towards me and politely told “Sir, taking pictures are not allowed in this area”. To that I replied sporting a smile on my face” Ma’am, I acknowledge the fact that Flying is a serious profession and at this point of time I am carrying no worries in my mind. In fact I am in an Indigo state of mind” Smile Just borrowed a line from famous Billy Joel song!

While seated, I was comparing Indigo’s FAs with the other FAs I encountered from UA, Aegean, Swiss, SQ & Air Asia in this trip so far. 6E being a LCC my comparisons may not be fair, but they were very professional.

My meeting in Delhi went off pretty well, time to get back to CCU. I have arrived DEL T1C well in advance.

Date: December 21, 2013
DEL- CCU
Airline: Indigo
Flight#: 6E 209
Equip: A320
Seat: 8D
Departs: 1950
Arrives: 2150

T1C is the low cost terminal, I guess. I see that SG, 6E & G8 are the main operators here though 6E is dominating the terminal. I found some 6E self service check in kiosks, the process was quick. I had nothing to check in, not even a hand bag! Never had such an occasion when I flew with just a piece of ID and a phone in my pocket. In good old days, I could have declared “I have nothing to declare but my... Very Happy "

Typical foggy day in DEL

The terminal is bustling with activity, there are lots of options for food, even there is a “Clipper Lounge” upstairs.
Soon the flight appeared on FIDs and passengers gathered at the departure area to be bussed to the aircraft.

Once I settled down and flight took off and reached cruising altitude, I dozed off. A long day came to an end.

Date: December 26, 2013
CCU- KUL
Airline: Air Asia
Flight#: AK 1240
Equip: A320
Seat: 6C
Departs: 0045
Arrives: 0720

Readers have noticed that though it was a round the world trip, I have not spent much time in my stop over points unlike the backpacking crowds do. I had about 3 weeks of vacation in total, out of that 2 weeks had to be in Calcutta, no compromise there. After taking out the travelling & connection time, I could only squeeze out two full days in KUL in addition to my time in ATH & SIN that I mentioned in previous parts of this Trip.

After sentimental send off from near and dear ones, I reached CCU for the last time in this trip.

Tonight, the international part of the CCU is quite busy by CCU’s standard. Multiple flights to BKK, Dragon air to HKG, China Eastern to KMG, SQ to SIN and Air Asia to KUL.

Monks making up the crowd for Thai Air Asia flight

I suddenly realized that I have quite a bit of INR left in my pocket that needs to be converted. The lone Bureau de Change, had no Malaysian Ringgit, so next best thing is to get SGD. The guy at the counter told me that I will be able to convert INR in KUL for MYR. He said he is 100% sure. I was little skeptical. I have burnt my fingers before when Manmohan Singh devalued INR in 1995, I bought Real Estate in CCU just days before big INR devaluation happened. I love all the things Mr. Singh did for India at that time but he could have told me about the upcoming devaluation, I would have waited few more days Smile. Anyway, the currency exchanger was right; INR could easily be exchanged in KUL.

List of Carriers out of CCU for international destinations

Arrival area downstairs

AK had an extra counter for CCU-KUL-SIN passengers, so I guess there were quite a bit of connecting passengers. LCC model is no more “point to point” transportation, in fact the distinction between Legacy and LCC is getting blurred day by day. The flight was full with Bengali Tourists and some connecting traffic to SIN and ANZ.

TG's A333 to BKK

The aircraft was in good condition, once everyone got seated, there was an announcement about the premium seats (with Red top) are up for sale, if anyone wants to switch. Some of us did and they paid cash to the FAs but I didn’t see them issuing receipt. Hmm! Flight took off on time, I said good bye to sleepy Calcutta! The crowd in this flight is much more civilized, unlike the BKK-CCU flight where rowdy traders kept on chatting about their purchases from BKK. Since I had my dinner at home, I positioned myself for a much needed nap.

I landed in KUL on a sunny morning! And I got a first hand view of the efficient KUL LCCT. It’s like a sophisticated bus terminal with tin sheds by the side of the apron to bring arriving passengers to the Arrival Hall.

While walking towards arrival hall, one can see catering trucks crisscrossing road with a fuel truck Smile  (it’s not that they are about to collide), everything is happening in a war zone like urgency. Very impressive.

It may not be an exaggeration if I say no two Air Asia aircrafts look the same. For an LCC is this not an area that should be looked into in terms of cost control? But the aircrafts look great!

The arrival hall is nothing grand, a row of immigration counters on one side and some bureau de exchanges on the other side. Immigration lines move very fast. I changed my INR to MYR before doing immigration not knowing rates were little better beyond immigration hall.
One more thing came to my attention that there are all kinds of banks from Middle Eastern countries in addition to the HSBCs or Citibanks of the world, doing business here. Malaysia being a Muslim country, I guess they are well integrated with the Middle Eastern economy. Similarly there is lots of local fast food chain competing with McD/KFC/Burger Kings. All these indicate that the Malaysian economy is open to businesses.

After collecting my bag, I grabbed a taxi and headed towards my hotel in Bukit Bintang area. KL city center is quite far from the airport, so the ride allowed me to have a glimpse of modern KL. I have almost two days to get a taste of Malaysian sights and sounds. Some Pictures:

MYR 5.95 or about USD3.00 McD value meal- didn't find so cheap anywhere else

Malaysian King's palace

Tropical green area near the palace

Old Architecture

Famous Petronus Towers

Christmas shopping craze

On Day two I visited a bird park calling themselves as "World's largest free-flight walk-in aviary". It's definitely unique but my nature loving mind is telling me that the birds are not at all comfortable being so close to human beings. It's an uneasy feeling seeing those birds in captivity. I am not arguing that they are not well looked after but hey I heard that inmates in UAE prisons are fed "Pilao/Pilav" few times a week too! Mad

Eco-friendly KL

Can any creature be more beautiful than this?

They are sad

In a very short space, for our entertainment

Next place I visited is called Batu Cave. Deeply religious Tamilian population of Malaysia makes this place a worth visit for Hindus and non-Hindus alike. To go to Batu cave I arrived at the KL central station. This station is a prime example how transportation networks can be planned effectively under one umbrella. It's very modern and efficient with numerous shops and restaurants. One hour train ride in a ultra modern light train cost me MYR 1 or 30 cents, just unbelievable!

Inside Central station

KL skyline from Batu Cave heights

Inside Batu cave compound I noticed an interesting store (owned by local Indians) but customers were mainly Chinese. I didn't understand what they were selling, I am guessing green tea but the bargaining was very intense and at times it was very noisy. I took the following two pictures there, if someone can recognise this store and tell me more about the history, I would really appreciate.

What a combination! Chairman Mao & our Radha Krishna! Hindi China bhai bhai

Another set of brilliant photo and investigative journalism. Kolkata domestic terminal seems to be crowded and spacious! I have seen yellow robed monks from SE Asia in the past. In fact CCU is still a major center of Buddhist pilgrimage .Glad to learn that at your departure time international terminal was crowded..But why so much ramp loading going on: they have plenty of aerobridges! I hope ME airlines will increase number of flights from Kolkata in future. I don’t want to make any political comments about presence of lumpens in state politics; as my past comments gave me lot of bad names. Hope your post will give a clear picture about new terminal and will give a better impression about the city and thanks for quoting my previous posts! Very Happy

Sir, no...I could not wait for the next installment. As usual, I loved both the pictures and the descriptions. You more-or-less started the trend of putting in pictures and descriptions of the places you have been to, in addition to aviation-related matters - in such a level of detail, that you have the reader with you at all times. You have amply described the sights, sounds...and somehow, forgotten the smells. I mean, the good ones: you have enticed the resident glutton my pointing to a food coupon being the middle part of the Indigo ticket, but not what went in-dig-oh! into your middle! Similarly, just a $3 burger in Malaysia? Come on Sir...sAtay, the non-airline nAsi lemAk, and so much more? I look forward to these, in addition to the usual Mr.Pal-copyrighted inimitable style of putting in pictures and descriptions, in the next part! And yes, banga-bAshi and Bong-bashing go hand-in-hand, I guess Razz
Cheers, Sumantra.

My passion for travelling has taken me to different places but I can tell you KL and Malaysia is a tourist’s paradise, unlike many places it’s quite cheap to have a nice holiday without compromising the quality of the accommodation, Food or transportation infrastructure! I will be coming here again.

Date: December 27, 2013
KUL- SIN
Airline: Tiger Airways
Flight#: TR 2467
Equip: A320
Seat: 10C
Departs: 2050
Arrives: 2150

I took the KLIA express from Central Station. The train goes to KUL but allows you to get off to a station (forgot the name) and a connecting bus ride brings you to the LCCT. While purchasing the ticket you have to mention that you will go to LCCT. One of the station on the way to KUL is called Cyberjaya (I guess it’s a tech city), I saw a lot of English speaking bright young kids got off here.

Last try at local fare before heading out

Catching KLIA Express from Central Station to LCCT

I mentioned about variety of banks, here are some of the names never heard before

Innovative front window of a Bureau de Change

Tiger Airways has a small presence in KUL LCCT as compared to Air Asia. I mentioned before that Air Asia has dedicated one whole check in area for flights departing to Indian airports. While I waited for my TR flight, I saw serpentine lines formed for boarding COK, BLR & CCU flights.

TR check in counters

Tiny section of Air Asia's counters

Gulliver in Lilliput land Very Happy

Boarding was announced soon. So I headed towards the aircraft.

Soon we were taking up our seats. The female crew wrapped tiger skin colour belt around their waste line that made their attire looked interesting. Announcements were made about connecting passengers at SIN for ANZ & Indonesian destinations. Demarcation line between Full Service and LCC is getting blurry day by day. I didn’t pre-order any food but I could collect a copy of their in-flight magazine that said “Complimentary copy” unlike Air Asia’s one; “Please don’t remove from the aircraft”.

Soon I landed in SIN, one more set of immigration drill, baggage collection and then transfer to T3. My next flight is at 7am so I had time to get some food and relax.

Christmas decoration in T1 with Russian theme

Complete with Matroyshka dolls

I changed my last MYR & SGD to USD once I paid for my food. T3 was not that busy during midnight hours so passengers who arrived early could stretch their legs or catch a quick nap.

Date: December 28, 2013
SIN- NRT
Airline: United Airlines
Flight#: UA 804
Equip: B777-200
Seat: 40D
Departs: 0700
Arrives: 1450

Slowly the counters opened. The flight is actually SIN-NRT-IAD, so there is extra security check. Before the check in counters, there were officers from Singaporean security services stationed who were checking documents and asking a few questions. Once that was done, I went to the check in counter and asked for aisle seats for a 3 remaining legs. I was told that it’s all good and only thing I have to do is to collect my bag at ORD and drop off for YWG. But later on I found when I boarded my NRT-ORD flight that I have been given a window seat that I hated so much.
This is the second mainline UA flight (ORD-LHR was the first one) in this trip that I am taking. The crew is mixed and about half of them are Japanese. The aircraft is definitely is in a better shape than their 763s. Being early morning flight and having not slept the night before I slept off as soon as the breakfast was served. So, I couldn’t really check out their service level neither the AVOD that was available.

For a change, Breakfast was good this time

Just before landing, Captain came on PA and announced that anyone interested to have a look at Mount Fuji should look out of the left side windows. Immediately, I remembered the tragic crash of JAL (correct me if got the airline wrong) when Pilot apparently wanted to present a better view of the same mountain by maneuvering the aircraft that ultimately resulted in a crash. I Fortunately I was on the right side, here is the picture.

Anyway, we landed in the land of rising sun on a very sunny crispy day. Frankly speaking, I didn’t want to have my first glimpse of Japan this way. I wanted to see the country, instead I am transiting thru this great nation. The lucky generation of ours who could experience things “Made in Japan”, (unlike today when everything is “Made in China”) and wondered how a small island nation is so technologically developed in whatever they manufacture, be it a Car or a Tape Recorder. I will surely visit Japan again in a proper way.

Air Canada 773ER just landed from YYZ

Japanese precision even in parking formation Smile

Date: December 28, 2013
NRT-ORD
Airline: All Nippon Airways
Flight#: NH 1012
Equip: B777-300
Seat: 28K
Departs: 1730
Arrives: 1405

The gate display showed NH 1012 is a 763! What! 763 for an 11.5 hours flight over Pacific Ocean, no way! I was kinda tensed until they corrected with 773 later on. I didn`t know what to expect from NH. Never flew them, did no research on their service quality! But I expected some standard simply because they are Japanese and part of the Star Alliance. But what I experienced was well beyond my expectation. The crew were all the time attentive, even for a second their smiles never faded. Very similar to SQs crew experience, very dedicated and highly motivated. The differentiator (between SQ and NH) was the quality of food, NH did an excellent job. One more thing I should mention that I noticed was in true Japanese tradition, each departing crew member bowed to the waiting passengers in the departing area before entering the aerobridge gate. Since I was sitting in a area where multiple NH flights were assigned gate numbers for departures , I saw that happening again and again! It gave a whole new meaning to the term ``Customer Service``.

Our aircraft ORD bound

Thank God! It's 773ER

When I discovered that my 28K seat is actually a window seat and the person sitting next to me is as big as Magic Johnson, I desperately wanted to change my seat. The attentive FA listened to my plea and went to her supervisor who came to me and said “Sir, the flight is full but there is anyone willing to switch seats I will let you know”. I knew my chances were slim but nothing much I can do except cursing the check-in guy at SIN who assured me all aisle seats.

We took off when sun was just going down on Japanese sky. Sayonara! This is my third time crossing the Pacific Ocean. Previous two times was quite memorable not for right reasons but for experiencing turbulence! During HKG-YVR in 2006 IIRC, just after Air Canada 340-300 came over the Japanese airspace we got into a two hour long turbulence that can be described from being mild to severe over that time frame. Quite scary stuff!

I guess this was dinner, no complain!

So this time I am already 3 hours into our flight everything is going smooth. Just when I thought I may be lucky this time, we entered a rough phase and seat belt sign went on quickly. What I endured next 45 minutes can be described as severe turbulence when tray tables rattled, plane shook with intense force but then it was all over. Pilot promptly switched off the seat belt sign. Nothing to write home about till we landed in ORD. I have a question for our forum contributors who are Pilots; Do aircrafts experience more turbulence when flying over Pacific Ocean as compared to Atlantic Ocean? Or it was just me who were unlucky enough to experience turbulence while flying over Pacific Ocean?

Second full meal, call it a breakfast Very Happy

As the Pilot was making his way towards ORD after an 11.5 hours flight, my window seat gave me rare chance to take some nice pictures on a clear day in Chicago.

Could even track the players movement!

Almost there

Yeah! My Round The World touchdown!

As we touched down, I realized that I have just completed my Round the World journey. The next leg ORD-YWG is just an unnecessary extra flight to reach home. A childhood dream conceived in India came true on American soil, I felt content.
Date: December 28, 2013
ORD-YWG
Airline: Expressjet dba United Express
Flight#: UA 6074
Equip: ERJ-145
Seat: 6A
Departs: 1745
Arrives: 1958

After going thru immigration and collecting bag, I went to the drop off area where I found a small UA counter. I went straight to one of the ladies there and asked whether I can connect to the previous flight. I explained to her that this will be my 14th flight in about three week period, I will really appreciate if she can put me in. She felt sorry for me and put me on stand by for the flight # 6074. She also tagged my bag with the new flight # and told me even if I can’t board this flight, my bag will reach YWG and wait for me. Fair enough.
When I reached the gate, I found my name displayed as the first in line amongst stand by passengers. The guy at the gate was not budging so I repeated my RTW story and I would appreciate if he can let me in. He told that he was waiting for two guys who are coming from DUB and going to YWG. Their incoming flight was late and finally he allowed me and another gentleman to board the plane by issuing new boarding passes.
While I almost crossed the gate and was departing for the aircraft, I saw two gentlemen came running to that UA guy and showed their boarding passes! Two Irishmen in half sleeve shirts going to Winterpeg Smile! In my mind I wished them good luck with minus 40 degrees that they will be encountering once they land in my beloved city!

The complete journey one last time

Thanks a lot folks for reading this long TR (all three parts). I can assure you that I will not be writing such a long TR again because there will no trip as long as this one Very Happy

...and the food-for-thought makes its appearance. Thank you, SIr Smile
I blame you for making my hungry just before leaving for work, on a Tuesday.
- Nice picture of the innovative forex shop design!
- What about the family, Sir? Mrs.Pal, your daughter, and son: were they with you on this leg back, or did they have separate itineraries? If it was the latter, and you joined up at some place, we would be interested to know their routing, and interesting experiences (and pictures, as well!). I'm guessing it was indeed the latter, since you write `my flight', `my next flight', and so on.
- tiger skin colour belt around their `waste' line: ha ha, nice pun, Sir! You mean, they are as huge as some AI cabin crew once were?
- The Russian theme: the Kremlin, and the Matrushka dolls: Mr. Pal: your long stay in the Soviet Union's perhaps second most significant phase - will not leave you soon!
- You hate window seats! Hmm...
- Very nice observations from NRT!
- You seem to have got lucky with the food: both on UA, as well as on NH. How was the Cabernet Sauvignon red in your dinner, peeking out from the top right?
- Long periods of turbulence over the Pacific: does this depend on the season? I have done an intra-PAC twice, and exactly on the same route as you have, on Cathay. The HKG-YVR segment. I did then in June/July. There wasn't any turbulence that I seem to recount. On one leg in fact, extremely low loads meant we got full-flat beds in Y Smile All pax selected their favourite 3 or 4 seat bed (it was a B744), and had a good sleep.
- No Sir, please do not disappoint us: we love long trip reports. Even if your trip is not RTW, please continue your trend of writing long and lovely TRs, with your trademark snaps from the exotic places you visit.
- Dr. Ganguly: the absence of aero-bridges is something you always notice Smile
Indigo usually avoids aero-bridges at most places (except perhaps BOM T1-C), since their use adds significantly to the cost structure. They are a good example of a relatively well-managed airline, who seem to be doing quite well over the network. Their on-time-performance is generally the best, so they factor in the bus gate delays quite well into their calculations. After the exit of Kingfisher, Indigo has been number 1 at CCU, and not without reason, with AI coming second, in terms of connectivity. Indigo also has a fair number of corporate contracts, and offers some great connectivity out of CCU.
Cheers, Sumantra.

Aerobridges were introduced to avoid apron congestion and accidents. When a 16 aerobridge brand new terminal available 200 ft away ,ramp loading should be abolished no matter what the economic consequences ! Otherwise what is the point of having a new integrated terminal!

Many airports all over the world, including the USA have ramp loading. 30 Mar 2005. DCA. We were asked to walk from a Continental Express ERJ-135 to the terminal in a chilly four degrees Celcius temperature. And remember that our jackets were handed over to us once we reached the terminal. Does DCA not have `enough' aero-bridges? Dr. Ganguly, however much you love aero-bridges, and however much useful they can be in inclement weather, many airports around the world: the middle east, some in Europe, some in the US still do ramp loading, not that irregularly. Check out the trip reports on Airliners.net.
Cheers, Sumantra.

And a fantastic end to this stunning trip report, sir!
That combination of old signs in new CCU is interesting! I found an old immigration form desk in MAA, in the new terminal. Well some things never get old, then! Also, a great coverage of the airlines, thank you for presenting it in such detail!
Looking forward to your next TR (Japan, as you hinted? Wink )

Sabya, glad to hear that you liked my "not-so-aviation centric" TR Very Happy CCU T2 is really ready to attract more frequencies but to get that Bengal has to be industry friendly, the memory of Tata-nano saga will haunt current generation of Industrialists for long time to come.

While on the subject, I found loud speakers installed at major intersections of Calcutta roads, while waiting for green light people are treated with choicest Tagore songs ! Only in Calcutta Very Happy

Sir, no...I could not wait for the next installment. As usual, I loved both the pictures and the descriptions.

Sumantra, first of all, my apologies for being so late..
Your comments always encourage me to do better (in terms of route planning, airline selection etc etc) for my next trip Very Happy
I don't know how Malaysian Big Macs can be way cheaper than rest of the world, I am sure the "Economist" took that into consideration in their Big Mac Index Very Happy.

"Banga-bashi" and "Bong-bashing" - ha ha..

You are right, we travelled on two separate routes and dates and no meeting point in between this time Very Happy. Daughter is planning to go on her first backpacking trip this summer.

tiger skin colour belt around their `waste' line: ha ha, nice pun, Sir! You mean, they are as huge as some AI cabin crew once were?

Ha ha but on a serious note, where those AI FAs gone? Have they all retired (VRS) or reassigned?

The Russian theme: the Kremlin, and the Matrushka dolls: Mr. Pal: your long stay in the Soviet Union's perhaps second most significant phase - will not leave you soon!

I landed in Russia (not SSR) but I have seen up close the Capitalist experiments it went thru at that time. Having lived in both sides of the divide, I guess one gets a better perspective of things when crisis happen.

You hate window seats! Hmm...

I simply love space. aisle seat gives you a semi-detached feeling Very Happy

You seem to have got lucky with the food: both on UA, as well as on NH. How was the Cabernet Sauvignon red in your dinner, peeking out from the top right?

Yes, no complain especially with NH meals. Good portions and two bottles of red wine Very Happy

No Sir, please do not disappoint us: we love long trip reports. Even if your trip is not RTW, please continue your trend of writing long and lovely TRs, with your trademark snaps from the exotic places you visit.

Thanks Sumantra

And a fantastic end to this stunning trip report, sir!
That combination of old signs in new CCU is interesting! I found an old immigration form desk in MAA, in the new terminal. Well some things never get old, then! Also, a great coverage of the airlines, thank you for presenting it in such detail!
Looking forward to your next TR (Japan, as you hinted? Wink )

Regards
Jish

Thanks Jishnu!
Re Old sign in CCU: I guess someone there believes in recycling !
I have Croatia, Slovenia & Georgia in mind for my next trip. But it all depends on what time of the year I travel. Nothing in the horizon yet, still paying bills from my previous trip Very Happy Very Happy

@ Mr.Pal:

Rabindra sangeet in traffic intersections are Ms. Mamota’s creation. Surprisingly Buddhadeb Bhattacharya once commented : aesthetically very pleasing. I found Kolkata air so polluted that it is better to listen all kinds of sangeets from your living room! Very Happy

Fabulous journey, thanks for the TR covering the whole experience.

I said the same thing in Rishuls TR- CCU terminal looks AAI'ish. Nice .... but mainly steel and glass = bit bare. Im a fan of the ceilings tho, love the local touch.
Blocking the isle with a cart is a security thing quite a few airlines do it. Good idea- simple and not over the top if there's no camera or galley space.

Hehehehehe interesting observation with the Air Asia upgrade seats (Red top) and no receipt. They must have some system any ideas?
Nice tarmac shots of the AK planes.
Nice pics of KL

love the Japanese precision parking

The ANA 777 looks amazing in your picture! Never get tired of her- she is a sexy aircraft (from the outside Wink )

Good that you noticed. I curiously looked on but didn't see the FA gave any receipts to anyone who switched seats. Unholy alliance, should I say Very Happy
