The Belgian government implemented a program April 1 that requires international business travelers working in Belgium for more than five consecutive days in a month to register before entering the country.
The program, Limosa, requires a traveller's employer, or a third party, to register the traveller on their behalf. A Limosa-1 certificate will be electronically generated upon registering. This certificate must be printed and carried by the traveller on their trip to Belgium.
Failure to comply with the program may result in penalties for a traveller's employer and for the hosting Belgian company. Specifically, the traveller's employer could face up to two years of imprisonment and a fine of USD$8,000. Exemptions to the program have been granted for government personnel, scientists, entertainers/athletes, and a number of other segments of the travelling public.
