Any idea on what the timings will be for this flight? and what aircraft would they potentially use? _________________ http://openflights.org/user/akumanduri |

Both the flights will depart DEL in the afternoon at 2 pm -ish and arrive in the morning back in DEL at 10.am - ish. MAN is expected to be a daily flight while BHX would be 4 weekly. |

Do they have free aircraft to perform these sectors, or do they have to wait for the 787s to arrive? If the 3 77Ws at DEL are going to be utilized to MEL, they have none to spare. _________________ Yeah. |

As per the proposed schedule for DEL-MEL-DEL.. that can be easily done on 2x 77W's. |

Direct flights to India could return to Brirmingham
Airport boss Paul Kehoe said he was hoping direct flights between Birmingham and India would be resurrected this year.
Thousands of passengers who used the route between the city and Amritsar to visit friends and family were left disappointed when Air India scrapped the link in 2008.
Other carriers introduced flights which connect
through Vienna, Dubai and Turkmenistan.
But Mr Kehoe said talks were ongoing to bring the direct connection back. He said the airport was among the contenders to become Air India ’s new hub for European flights.
The move could create scores of jobs and help fill spare capacity at Birmingham. A decision is expected later this year.
“We have been speaking to the airline through our worst recession and that is encouraging,” Mr Kehoe said.
“The flights to Amritsar stopped on the day I joined the airport because Air India was keen to protect its flight slots at Heathrow – it was not due to demand.

Humph! I'll still take this with a pinch of salt!
Although launching MAN will do better than BHX.. |

I'm not sure about the feasibility of BHX, MEL or MAN - but such trivial things as profitability don't really matter to Air India.
That said, the proposed timings of these flights (as well as several existing flights) are great, because they enable good domestic connectivity with reasonable layovers, instead of faffing about at Sahar or Palam for all hours of the night. Good job.
Jet should learn something. _________________ four years free of jetya punti! |

It's because of T-3 where all connections can occur under one roof. Once BOM's operations are integrated under T2, it should be the same. As of right now, Jet's connections at DEL work seamlessly too. |

I'm not talking about the infrastructure and T3 has nothing to do with it. If you want to fly JNB-AMD or BRU-JAI on Jet, you're going to have to faff around all night after arriving at DEL or BOM until your first domestic connection in the morning. With AI's timings, that is not necessary. That's what I'm talking about: the timings, T3 or no 3.
And seamless is in the eye of the beholder. Bala's recent TR showed how things aren't exactly seamless, at least not yet - and that's not necessarily to do only with the airline, but as much with the infrastructure / airport. _________________ four years free of jetya punti!

@jaspel, it's been discussed earlier, if jet wants to start international connectors, they will, at the moment it's AI who really need some traffic, Jet it doing awesome on all routes now, apart from Bala's TR there are many other instances indicating that BOM-JNB is doing pretty well, and it's not even an year old, same applies for DEL-MXP, rest of the loads have already been 80%+, and watching fares, yields have been improving too.

I'm sorry, but are you for real? I thought that your mantra was a tongue-in-cheek spoof, but I guess I was wrong. I've heard of fanatical jihadis, but you're the first Air India-hadi I've encountered. |

That was part of my signature, quoting issues on this forum tend to mess up things.
And yeah, call me or people like me whatever you want ( we or at least I really don't care ). You can't anything. I leave it at that. _________________ I Love Air India, forever. |

Well, you certainly are passionate. Maybe AI needs to hire you as their PR man instead of the clowns they currently have on staff! |

EK are going triple daily on DXB-MAN, QR and EY; both go double daily, this could severely dent AI's chances of success on this route.
Ps, thanks to behramjee for the update. _________________ Causal Determinism : We are hardwired to need answers. The Caveman who heard a rustle in the bushes and checked out to see what it was, lived longer than the guy, who assumed it was just a breeze.

Not necessarily. EK go 5 times daily to LHR, and Indian and British carriers still dominate that route. |

Well, LHR has 70 million annual passengers, MAN has 17 million! Plus fares of these Gulf carriers from India to LHR are through the roof.
