Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation reports (21-Feb-2011) the following Indian domestic traffic highlights in Jan-2011:

• Passenger numbers: 4.9 million, +20.8% year-on-year;
o Air India: 779,000, +6.1%;
o Jet Airways: 854,000, +13.7%;
o JetLite: 372,000, +34.3%;
o Kingfisher: 961,000, +5.8%;
o SpiceJet: 705,000, +41%;
o GoAir: 315,000, +43.2%;
o IndiGo: 950,000, +52%;

• Seat factor:
o Air India: 69.3%;
o Jet Airways: 73.9%;
o JetLite: 74.6%;
o Kingfisher: 86.5%;
o SpiceJet: 82.6%;
o GoAir: 83.3%;
o IndiGo: 88.6%.

While a massive increase YoY, was reading a headline which said 5% drop from the previous month.

Well - given the article we read about 20% occupancy on some of the domestic routes (operated by heavies at that), their overall low seat factor is no surprise I guess...

...or less, as in Varun's TR (bad advertising led to a near-empty flight) or Rishul's TR, for that matter. There are the metro routes that go jam-packed with near 100% occupancy, and there are routes that go quite empty. This inconsistency is disappointing!
