I'd like to update this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chhatrapati_Shivaji_International_Airport

Similar to the ATC frequencies listed on this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HAL_Airport

guys,
ATC scanners in india are extremely hard to find as u know,.... only at one place ie indus.
about two years back i discovered ( frm the internet of course) a method to alter the frequency of an simple fm radio inorder to listen atc.
and following the instructions i could do it an as of now i am still using one of the configures fm receivers to listen atc. although it may not meet the quality of a maycomm, it does suffice the need to listen atc.

guyz, if any body is interested in doing so pls reply.
personnaly, i think its a good idea especcialy when finding atc receivers in mumbai is next to impossible.

The other day when we were spotting Shekar had his leased maycom and Jayson had got his radio which i must say WORKS......

Jayson explained to me how the rings or the coil can be increased but then me not technical at all, so he volunteered for doing it for me.

Jayson is a nice person and was fun to have whilst spotting.

actually its quite simple, also there are three ways t do it but this procedure is the most simplest among them.

so will come back with it. and no sir, i am not Jaison from anet.

The number of coil turns on the Ferrite rod need to be accurate,so tat Frequency does not vary leading to drift.

Mine never worked practically. So I picked the Scanner from INDUS.

Not sure if that was the method that jayson was suggesting though.

jayson wrote:
you will need
any analog or digital FM radio portable possibly.

open the radio(caution: take care not to snap any wire in the procedure )
now search for metal coils within the circuit board. there will be about two to three such coils.
now on the radio and tune it to some radio station. touch your finger to each of the coil to see which of them causes a change in the frequency of the radio as the tuned station will become weak/ detuned on touching the coil. once you have identified the coil called local oscillator, remove carefully any wax or sponge inside the coil. for the job you have to use your nails or a screwdriver to increase the distance between each turn. as you increase the spacing you will feel the stations shifting behind. for example 107.1 mhz will now be tuned at a lower frequency indicated by the printed dial. lower frequency stations might not be even heard. increase the spacing till the highest frequency station now tunes at an indicated lower frequency. the rest of the dial space is the air band! 118-137 mhz. and its time to enjoy atc on your fm radio.
and dont forget to close the radio case.
and this method has nothing to do with the am ferrite rod. its the LCR method (i call it) where you change the inductance. hope i could describe the trick well.

Thank you Jayson Wink
I think member AirIndiaOne should also give his imputs.

great idea jayson !...i remember once when i was fiddling with my semi broken Rs. 100 worth FM receiver (those were hugely popular few yrs ago and cud be found outside churchgate station) i managed to tune into the air band frequency but lost it in a few minutes.

I have a whole list of airport / ground / dispatch / catering frequencies for BOM. If any1 is interested, i'll send it across.

Hi Anuj - do you have something similar for BLR? I'm interested in the "operational services frequencies" - stuff that the airlines use for internal communication or with catering, fueling etc.

Hey thanks - but I already had this information (also posted it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HAL_Airport#ATC_frequencies_in_use).

What I was looking for was the frequencies used for airline->Catering or pilot->marshaller etc. Something other than what's listed on the Wiki site. Thanks in advance for any assistance Smile

pilot to marshaller is not done via frequency. i think you mean the release engineer/push back marshaller.. in that case it is a headset worn by the ground personnel which is connected to the cockpit from the terminal at the nose wheel gear strut unit.

Catering frequencies are used by the catering staff internally.. and are not aligned into the airlines ground ops frequency.

atleast thats how the 2 scenarios are for the international airlines. dont know about the domestic setup.

The Mx to Flight deck communication is Wired via Flt Interphone & not wireless via VHF/HF.

Catering staff & Each Airline Grd personnell have a fixed allotted Frequency.Normally not settable but fixed & cannot be varied by an Individual without opening the set up.It also depends on the type of RT unit in use.
