Amazing postcards Shivendra! Thanks- love the clarity and the archived b/w look .

Just thought I'd add anpother 2 old timers from IC to add to the above collection - Found these on Jetphoto:

The Caravelle twin with her unique triangular windows, so chosen to avoid the catastropic hull failure caused by cracks propagating from the square window corners of the Comet used the nose of the Comet in her design. With the tail mounted engines, it was the first jetliner with this sleek uncluttered wing and underbelly. Always found the black nose odd and Panda bear-ish. Also brought IC into the Jet age in 1964 when she was introduced in IC's fleet. Credits on the photo...

An Ex-Indian Airlines Vickers Viscount - one of the world's first turbo prop airliners at Sahar International Mumbai in 1979. Flew in an Air Zimbabwe example in the late 80s and it was a most unique experience. Probably the biggest windows of any aircraft i have sat in. Made the cabin look so bright and airy. She had quaint curtained oval windows making the passing scenery look like an oval framed 3D picture. Wide doors were really welcoming too making one not notice the smallish cabin cross section much.

I plan to build a model of the same in the near future.

Dear iflytb20,
while I don't have nor have I been able to locate such a colour picture of the IC Caravelle twin, I do remember seeing it either in a magazine or perhaps in person while landing in Mumbai in the 80s. It was baking in the sun near the Air Works hangars somewhere.

Well the colour pic would not especially give you more details than the b/w pic seen above, except that the tail was the same dull orange colour as the IC A300 tail.

Do let us in on how you are building a model of this aircraft.

As a kid I'd spend many an enjoyable hour crafting various aircraft from pencils and tracing out the wing shape and the number of doors and windows from cardboard and paper based on Jane's aircraft world book that would come out annually. They would have schematics of airliners too which I would draw the wings (as also the tail, horizontal stabilizer and engine pylons) from and cut out. I would then stick those cardboard wings, engine pylons and paper window/door strips and use plasticine/blue tack/modelling clay to fashion the aircraft engines. and the wheel wells Smile

Then I'd spend hours flying these models from the the airport in the hall to the various airports in different rooms in the house Wink Ha ha what fun that used to be! Especiallyto see them all lined up at the hub airport. I had a 707, A300, 737, VC-10, DC-8, DC-10 and L-1011 in my fleet. Shame I didnt take a snap of these.

All the best with your modelling efforts. Do let us into a pictorial or literal update on your progress as well as the finished product.

Best wishes
Ramesh

Wow! Exciting - Love the details, and looking forward to your pictorial progress report. Will you be creating customised IA graphics to stick on?

Nice Find indeed Himmat. Thanks.
Took the liberty to post the pic from your link...

The Caravelle twin does look very sleek in this - the tail mounted engine well disguised by the cheat lines.

Talking about cheat lines - wasnt IC's cheat lines on the original livery navy blue - here it looks almost like dark green. The location could pass off for Bangalore of yesteryears.

That site is famous for its "modified" airliner pics

It's the real deal. One of India's first die-cast model airplanes (read toys) was based on the Caravelle in these colors.

Made in India by Milton, circa 1970
